I just went over to Seriously Forums just to see the forums are shutting down. I couldn't login for around a month, so I was afraid this will happen. The forum has been around for about 18 years and I have been a more or less active member since 2010. I never visited many forums, but I sticked with this one and I actually knew people by their usernames, so it really sucks.

Classic gaming forums shutting down is nothing new, with players switching to Steam, Discord, Reddit and other modern stuff. What are some of the forums you used to visit that have been shut down over the years ?
The "stupid forum" subsection of gamegossip. Awesome population, real fun and cleverly absurdist sub-community. The website's owners were pricks, though. It eventually died.
The Old Bethesda Elder Scrolls modding forums.

When they switched over to Bethesda.net, the community got broken up. The .net setup has different aims. The old setup fostered a community. I liked it over there a lot. Miss those boards...
I miss the GOG forum from 2012 when I joined.
There was a great Youtube show called NoobToob, had an awesome community too. But the show ended and so did the forums.

I also miss the old Diablo 2 WoW-pre cross realm community.

This. Oh God I loved that community. I was an active member there for years. Also, some of the mod ding boards for Morrowind and Oblivion. Back before the Nexus.
I used to read as a lurker in the Planet Baldur's Gate forums (linked to Gamespy iirc)...was shut down years ago.
The Nintendo Power Forums, they slammed shut right around the time Reggie became a prominent figure.

And to a lesser extent, the TRSRockin forums, one of my first online hangouts. I found posts there dating back to 2006.

On an archived version of the site.
Old Bioware forums.

Funny, that was the first one that came to mind for me. I checked out their discord but it didn't reach the same level of quality, focused Serious Sam discussion that the forum used to have.

Others I miss every day:

The Game Collector's Market (forums.my-collections.eu) - I was probably the most active here of any forum. It was a great place where PC game collectors could discuss the art of game collecting, and show off their collections and wishlists. Unfortunately, the plug was pulled without any warning due to "low activity". Yeah, there's facebook groups etc. now, but it's just not the same and doesn't reach the same level of quality discussion.

The old 3DRealms (and later, Gearbox) forums. These were the best places to discuss Duke Nukem, FPS games, etc. for many years. The 3DRealms community was particularly special. Both of these companies still have forums, but they switched over to new software that is very frustrating to use and lost most of their community in the process.

As much as the GOG forums are in dire need of some technical updates, I really hope that they don't make drastic changes that ruin the feel of this place. I've seen too many forums switch to new "better" technologies only to find that the old system actually better suited their community.

I understand your concern, but I feel that having fullwidth posts would help a lot.
The InsideMacGames forum will be missed. It was a pretty nice place to hang out in from the early to late '00s Well, technically it still exists, but since the main IMG site got shuttered the forum user base dwindled down to maybe a dozen or fewer "active" posters.

If the only changes they made were to remove a few (mis)features, would you be happy?
Gamespot used to be a really cool place but I guess youtube and twitch killed them.
Old Team Fortress 2 community.

Vanilla/BC WoW forums.
