Invisibalist: Just for completion, as the information is kind of spread around in parts.

I recommend to install the latest patch: https://www.moddb.com/games/xiii/downloads/xiii-all-in-one-installer

This not only tweaks certain settings that you would have done manually anyways, it also fixes a few underlying issues (e.g. the sloppy menu mouse) and it unlocks multiplayer and adds a bit more variety there through the use of mutators.

To effectively play multiplayer, I suggest joining the friendly XIII community on the InsideXIII Discord.
We have eight dedicated servers running 24/7 for everyone to use (Germany, Czechia, US), or you just chill around with other folks to talk about any XIII title and rant about the remake.

There will be a follow-up patch update that adds HD textures and improves the player view regarding weapons happen to show too large on widescreen + high FOV. There's a public beta version addressing these issues, also available only on the InsideXIII Discord.

Preview patched weapon view for widescreen
I owned a boxed copy of the game but it was very problematic an laggy in new systems, DRM free though.
The GOG version runs very smooth until you reload an specific checkpoint. The music spots and the game freezes. The cutscenes are soundless unless you run it with Windows XP compatibility settings, maybe that is thereason fo the freezes when reloading in that terrible and unintuitive save system. Save and save checkpoint do the same.

Are some of these problems resolved with the unofficial patch? Yesterday I raged and uninstalled the game in the FBI roof level/part.

Greetings

There might be a scripting bug that slipped through QA since you rarely happen to respawn at that place. I myself wasn't aware about it for over 10 years, until someone else pointed it out. Apparently the freeze occurs at two places, one at the FBI roof entrance and later in a certain submarine section. If you find a section too hard, I suggest to lower difficulty or simply do F2 -> "God (yes, with that quote sign at the beginning).

The missing sound in cutscenes appears to happen randomly though, I recently had no sound for once and on second launch it was instantly back.

For saving just use F5 and F9 (quicksave/quickload).

Kind Regards

I've only one question: ... WHEN?
avatar
Breja: Actually, I think it is correct. Clicking will both get you the game and sign you up.
avatar
GamezRanker: It does? If so, that's somewhat shady on GOG's part.
(and i'm wondering: is that even legal?)
Pretty sure it isn't illegal.
There's a message in the XIII banner, saying you will subscribe if you proceed. GOG isn't hidding what's going to happen if you get the game.

Thanks for the explanation.Crystal clear. One of those checkpoint bugs exploded in my face, indeed. The FBI roof section one.
The problem is annoying because when it is loaded, the game freezes, but when you turn off the game the executable keeps functioning in the background, I was aware of it just because I was running it under Galaxy and the PLAY button was greyed out.The true annoying part is that when you start the game again the checkpoint loaded is not the roof one but the first one of the level. I played it three times until I decided to uninstall it in rage. :)

Now I am tempted t install the game again but I doubt something will change.

greetings

I mean, afaik in some countries ALL promotional stuff for contests/etc must make people aware of such things, and the OP post doesn't do that.

At least they put it in the banner.....but still, how many read that stuff?
Thanks for the nice surprise, GOG!

petitmal: This is a repost from Breja:

"Your Spring Sale marketing spam trojan horse you mean. Is that what all the giveaways are going to be now? Get a free game if you agree to get the spam we're pushing? Ok then. I'll pass on your games and your spam."

Why?

Because he is right.

Now vote this post down.

THESLITHERYDEE: Most things in the world are Tit for Tat. If you really don't want the emails sign up for the newsletter with a throwaway.
"Most things in the world are Tit for Tat."

Indeed, but that's not the point, is it?

Furthermore, (Tit for Tat) how much merit carries the word "free", when used as in "free" game, or how much of this "giveaway" is a gift?

tfishell: there are already several threads dedicated to criticizing GOG, people can rant in there

B1tF1ghter: Ah yes, it would be very convenient to contain all constructive criticism in prelude of nuk*ng the thread to erase all public evidence of discontent wouldn't it?
But of course /s
