Trajhenkhetlive: I'm actually surprised there isn't more digital versions of board games. It lends itself well to the medium; setup time almost nil, clean up nill, can go online for players if none are at ones place, the game can keep track of pieces and implement rules (almost eliminating cheating).

_Bruce_: I'm much rather see modern games like Ticket to Ride and Carcasonne.
You can play Carcasonne and many other great board/card games on http://www.brettspielwelt.de/?nation=en

Best thing to do is download the java-based client. It's multiplayer and free. I've lost housr and hours and hours playing games there :-)
It'd be nice to see Talisman Prologue released on here.
I wouldn't hold my breath for the Digital Edition to make it though.
I think it might be married to Steam for the matchmaking, and I dunno how selling all the expansion sets as DLC would go over.

Fever_Discordia: IIRC Civilisation was based on a board game so anything of Civ heritage on GOG - Alpha Centuri, Call of Power, Colonization etc. have board game roots

The computer version of a board game I'm playing at the moment is Bloodbowl (LE) that should come to GOG!

Theta_Sigma: I think the better bet would be to get Chaos Edition if they were going to put up Bloodbowl since it doesn't have SecuRom unlike the previous versions if the game. That being said I'm not sure how ingrained it is with Steam.
Oh yeah, it would defiantly be best to see CE come here - its the more complete version too, I was just saying that it is LE that I've been playing (I was NOT aware of the DOS version from 1995 either - that was interesting to check out http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/blood-bowl)

Magic: The Gathering... Isn't a technically a board game but it is similar - its a competitive table top game for 2 or more players at least
It'd be nice to see the Microprose 'Shandala' one here, the various iterations of Duels of the Planewalkers too, why not? I heard Battlemage was a bit pants though...

Reading this topic made me think of a indie game, which has a boardgame vibe: 7 Grand Steps.

Azilut: Well, there's Battle Chess and Combat Chess. Chaos Overlords feels a lot like a strategy board game, and FTL is heavily inspired by a board game called Battlestations. A lot of turn-based strategy titles are also quite boardgamey.

As for classic abstracts like checkers, go, etc, it might be hard to justify selling them here, since there are dozens of free versions online already.
By your logic, GOG should be out of business then. All of the games on the GOG website are available all over the internet and they are free! Yet GOG is still selling the games and they are still running the website!

Not everyone likes online versions of games. Websites come and go all the time so there is no guarantee that your game is going to be there tomorrow or 6 months from now.

I'd like to be able to play a DRM free version of a board game. I brought a few board games from an Australian website that had activation with the install. The activation website has gone and I can no longer play the games.

That's not the same thing, though. GOG is able to sell games that can be pirated for free because they offer services that add to the value of their product. Those services include:
-You get to own a legitimate, legal copy of the product.
-The game comes preconfigured to run properly on most modern systems (not always an easy thing with older titles), and you get tech support if it doesn't work.
-You get a package of bonus items, including manuals (which are often missing from pirated versions).
-You don't have to worry about shady sites or viruses.

Sure, I can pirate the Zork games, but imagine if Activision started hosting a legal, preconfigured, DRM-free download of them on their website for free. At that point, if GOG continued to charge for them, it would be legitimate to ask what exactly I'm giving GOG my money for.

Look, it's hard to judge tone on the internet, but I feel like maybe you were upset by my comment, like you thought I was pooh-poohing your idea. I'm not. I'd love to see a really great "Go" program show up here. I'm just pointing out one possible reason why GOG might not think it's worth their time to pursue.
