The 7th Guest, when came out in 1993 as one of the first games released on CDs, it supposedly drove the sales of CD-ROM drives to rise by 300%. Over two million copies of the game were sold, as everybody wanted to see what the new technology can bring to the gaming table. Driven by curiosity, the gamers came to find a uniquely presented horror story with thick atmosphere, creative puzzles, and innovative pre-rendered 3D graphics. The orchestrated soundtrack played a large part in creating the game's eerie mood and the FMV actors added a fantastic horror B-movie quality into the mix. Notice:
Be advised, that once the promo ends, the prices of both games will be permanently reduced by 40%, so each of them will be available in GOG.com catalog for $5.99.
Never played them back when they were released, but I remember the snazzy ads in all the gaming magazines at the time. For four bucks I'll see what all the excitement was about.

rtcvb32: Games I bought and downloaded but have yet to play, and now they are on discount. This means I should always wait to buy games until they are on promo, unless I gotta play them 'now'. Hmm..
Good Point. However that isn't always true because sometimes greedy publishers will decide to remove their games from Gog.com and release them on Steam only with DRM and copy protection so that you can't backup your games like you can with Gog.com... A good example would be the Fallout series. Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics were once available on Gog.com for many years until the latest publisher who bought those games' intellectual properties decided to remove them from Gog.com... Now you can only buy Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics on Steam with DRM and copy protection attached (not to mention a required Steam client install just to play these games that don't require a Steam client)... So if anybody was waiting for those games to go on sale and they missed the last 2013 winter sale (The Fallout series was totally free for 2 days, which they did because they knew they were about to remove these games on Gog.com), Those people who were waiting and not watching Gog.com like a hawk will never again have a chance to buy those games. (It's very unlikely that the new publisher of the old Fallout series will reverse this and go back to DRM free versions)... So don't wait on buying games if they're classics that you really want to own... because one day they might disappear into the hands of greedy and wealthy rich men (publishers), and that's not the fault of Gog.com, Gog.com doesn't have much control over what a game's publisher decides for their games.
I've been curious about those two since they came out but if I remember well the reviews back then weren't very good, and back then I normally saved my money for games with very good reviews. By the comments people are writing I can see why it did not receive glorious reviews as they seem more like a series of puzzle games then true adventure games. Knowing that, I'm 100% ok buying them at such a low price.

And I must say that GOG is very classy by telling us the price will drop after the sale, there are not many business that would do the same. One more reason to buy here.
Great promo. But I wonder why doesn't include 18 Wheels of steel If they focused to number-named games:D

// Sorry for off topic but can't resist to not post it ;)
Price cuts are always welcome--especially for puzzle games, which have limited re-playability by their nature. I agree with justanoldgamer that it's nice of GOG to warn prospective buyers, so they can compare the discount against the upcoming non-discounted price.

Br00ce: Fallout FUD
You cannot buy Fallout 1, 2 and/or tactics from Steam. The games have been removed from sale from there as well. Please do check the facts before posting.
Bethesda is working on returning the games to sale, with steam having priority over GOG atm because they currently have a contract with steam. That does not mean Fallouts will not return to GOG, unlike Wallace and Gromit which is highly unlikely to return.

JinseiNGC224: Did the third games kickstarter ever get it's funding when it ran last year?

MoP: Unfortunately not.
But after the Kickstarter had ended they jumped ship to Crowdhoster, some other crowdfunding platform that allows more flexibility. The premise is to have two goals, first lower one, $65k to make a demo.

Precinct, The Jim Walls Police Quest spiritual successor campaign tried a similar thing and didn't end well. It's looking similarly for 7th Guest right now, but they supposedly haven't started properly promoting the new campaign, only announcing it to the backers before Christmas (probably waiting for the Broken Age dust to cool off).
Hope they'll make it somehow, but...
I saw the Kickstarter for the 7th Guest 3 but I did not back it, because the author did not want to innovate. Some extra puzzles? Sure, really nice, but the jarring movement and the forced points of view while walking through the house? Ehmm, no.
The 11th hour was at the bottom of my wishlist so I picked it up. I will most likely play it around 2054 when I finish off my backlog
Interesting (and expansive) story of the developer and these two games from 1999 (strangely enough Geoff Keighley was a game journalist then :p) :

Wurzelkraft: I remember 7th Guest vaguely from watching my father play it about 20 years ago but I have never seen 11th Hour before. How similar is it? Better or worse than 7th Guest?
The're very similar. The 11th Hour adds in a "treasure hunt" mechanic where you get clues about a particular object in the house and have to find it and click on it - hope you like anagrams, 'cause the game sure does. It also tries to tell more of a story - whether or not this is a good thing depends on how much you enjoy cheesy FMV acting. (For me, it's always a plus.)

Yes, this is a very good story - in fact, it's too bad it's not included with both games!
Nice!

And thanks to ga777 for the link, still reading!

Wouldn't it be a great irony if these games were in tomorrow's DRM-Free Time Machine Sale?
Awesome to see these games go on sale and get a permanent price drop as well. Mind you, if they're going to be $5.99 after the sale then the sale price is only 66% discount over the new base price. ;) Nonetheless it's good to see, and I'm contemplating picking them up as they've been on my wishlist for a while now. To buy or ... to wait until they go 75+% off with the new pricing down the line... that is the question... ;oP

Hrm, I think I'll wait until the promo is just about over and make a whimsical decision about it in the 11th hour... ;o)

If you mean reviews here on GoG, then...I dunno.

But if you mean at the time it came out, the 7th Guest was very highly reviewed, winning all sorts of awards and acclaim and selling a ton of copies. Remember getting it for Christmas along with a CD-ROM drive (and the Case of the Cautious Condor, which I'd love to see on GoG) and being blown away.

The 11th Hour got mixed reviews when it came out because it was essentially a retread with some kind of bizarre additions to game mechanics.

Frankly, for $3.88, it's worth it just for the included soundtracks. Fatman and Team Fat did fantastic worth with both games. Some of them like Skeletons in the Closet I still have in my music library.
