Here it is

It's mostly about Cd Projekt's work ethics and their future games. And here's a tidbit that came to my attention:
People buy games because they want to, not because they have to, and this is very much what GOG is about. It’s freedom - freedom of the way you play, where you play, and how you play. At the same time, right now we’re working a lot on the convenience of...I can’t talk about it just yet, but there will be lots of things happening over the year with GOG. We’re working on something big that we’ll be announcing in the first half of this year.
CONVENIENCE OF US FORUM PEOPLEZ?!?!

Ehem. I'm calm now :D
Sounds more like an optional client to me, there's a lot of people that want it.

Maybe convenience of being able to play games anywhere and on the move - mobile gaming i.e. Android versions of stuff!
I never really got why people would want a client. The GOG downloader I get, it lets you pause and resume downloads, but what else would you want? GOG has no achievements, trading cards or any of the other nonsense a certain vapour company has, so what would such a client do? No really, I am curious about this, I'd like to know. I can't think of any reason, and as far as I'm concerned software should be as lightweight as possible, just how the GOG downloader does just one thing and nothing else.

There are some games that require updates every fifteen bloody seconds and stick a bright red flag on top of the screen to remind us of it. Ring Runner is the most annoying one for me, all the more because I didn't like it at all and there is no option to hide update notifications for games that you have hidden from your shelf.

Yeah but would it be classed as 'something big"?.

You get the mob of people who like the convenience (or laziness haha) of everything in one place autopatching (more than a few have complained about way it works right now) - optional client could be that hub. Also some form of social networking or the like.. chat options?.

The big thing can only be one of two things :
- GoG will buy steam and valve this year
or
- they will fix the search feature on the forum.

Can't see anything else.

The latter won't ever happen, the former is more likely.

Are these two mutually exclusive? ;-p

ahah
According to *ehem* some inside information that I happen to be privy to, the next big thing from GOG is going to be free pizza and beer for any purchase at $50.00 or more. The only downside to this is that you will have to download it. :D

Let's say, the two things occurring simultaneously would be ....... a very big thing ?

Patches and updates. Not a big issue for the "old game" fare, but a big deal for new releases.

I'd imagine that GOG is losing out on a lot of business from Kickstarter-funded games because they have no realistic way to provide alpha/beta access and the rapid-fire updates that go along with that. By the time the full release has come, backers have long-since redeemed their beta keys on another service.

There are more than a few people that can't get past the idea that downloading and installing are separate steps. Some also have a hard time getting past the idea that all their stuff isn't just in a nice browseable package. They just want to go into game mode and see what they have available - both installed games and not. And they want it because that is the experience they have been given outside of GOG, and it is kind of nice.

People also don't like modular software. To you simple programs might seem like a good idea, but some people get lost in the disjointed steps, and it's off putting for them to think about having to do A, then B, then C, but now that I've done A and B, I really only need to do C, but what if I don't remember if I've done A and B?

To some degree you can call it catering to the lowest common denominator, but people that play games aren't always computer savvy or interested in spending any time figuring out what is what. The experience with the fewest steps, and most cohesive presentation wins in a lot of circumstances.

I think something like that could be fairly cool if they found a way of linking multiplayer lobbies and the like for old gog games. Something like what gameranger does.

I'd love to get in on some multiplayer carmageddon, rune or duke 3d action.

Edit: Just to add, I still think all releases should be drm free, even if they are client compatible if this is the route they want to take.
