I saw a few older threads about this, back before it was actually a game. (and noticed there doesn't seem to be a "new post" option in older threads, so...)

I love the Neverwinter games, so I'm definitely going to give this one a try - but I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the DLC for it: the "Steam starter kit" is 19.99. The "Guardian of Neverwinter" pack is 59.99.

The "Hero of the North" pack is... 199.99. Words fail me.

I've played Neverwinter a bit and I quiet enjoyed the game, and I probably should get back into it at some point. That being said, the "Hero of the North" pack is absurdly expensive, however, at least it's not this. :P

There was a price glitch where Ukrainians and Belorussians grabbed it for $1.99 I think. Not too many of those copies floating around though since it provides something around $40-$100 in-game currency.

But in general the game is probably fine. Likely a bit better than DDO.
Never bought anything for Neverwinter, mostly played the user created content and enjoyed that quite a bit.

Anything you'd recommend? I have been meaning to try user generated stuff but I never got around to it.

Wow. My initial reaction was the same as the first post: April Fool's joke? Guess not!

Actually, I initially thought it was a typo. I thought it was supposed to be $249.99, and someone screwed up. I mean NewEgg once had an Antec case for sale that had shipping at $99,999.99, so I thought someone just made an error and put the wrong cost for the item. After I saw it was never changed I realized that was the actual price. Funny side note, you can get the thing free with a purchase of $75...and 480,000 (yep 480,000) geek points.

I agree, if they ever make one for even around $250ish I'd consider it because of what it can do. That being said I would never buy something worth the same price as my computer (well if I were to have bought it at a retailer rather than build it). :P

The "Hero of the North" pack is... 199.99. Words fail me.
The Hero Of The North pack contains the following 17 items:

Menzoberranzan Renegade
Unlock access to this unique playable race. Like the legendary ranger, Drizzt Do'Urden, you can play as a Drow exiled from the dark elf stronghold of Menzoberranzan, City of Intrigue. Comes with unique racial powers and cosmetic tattoos. Once unlocked on your account, you can make any number of these Drow.

Heavy Giant Spider
Terrorize your foes as you charge into battle atop this eight-legged beast. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Panther
No journey is complete without a faithful companion, and this Panther is among the best. This fierce and loyal creature will fight by your side, helping you lay waste to all who dare to stand in your path. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Gilded Moonstone Regalia
This regal outfit will allow you to stand out as one of the upper-class in Neverwinter. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Delzoun Treasure Box
This level 60 chest is guaranteed to contain an epic weapon or implement with a unique enchantment and special visual effect. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Graycloak's Legacy
Start your quest with a mastercrafted weapon or implement. Comes equipped with a unique enchantment that can be unslotted and used in other items. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Gond's Endless Coffer of Pyrotechnics
Never allow boredom to settle in - generate an infinite amount of fireworks to keep yourself entertained. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Robe of Useless Items
A classic D&D item - drops a piece of useless junk on the ground when activated. This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Dust of Creation
Grants you the ability to create an object out of this air! This item can be claimed and equipped by all characters on your account!

Adventurer's Helper Pack
A bundle of scrolls, skill kits, an XP boost, and other consumables that will help your Hunter Ranger adventure efficiently. This item can only be claimed by one character on your account!

Bag of Holding
A helpful bag that grants an additional 12 inventory slots. This item can only be claimed by one character on your account!

VIP Game Access
When server loads are high, jump to the head of the queue and get priority log-in access.

Moonstone Regular
Grants access to the VIP section of the Moonstone Mask Tavern in Protector's Enclave.

Dungeon Master
Start creating your own quests in the Foundry without having to level up any characters.

Respec Token
This item will allow you to respec all of your feats, powers and abilities.

3 Extra Character Slots
Unlock three additional character slots on your account!

2,000,000 Astral Diamonds
A massive sum of in-game currency that can be used on a variety of items, tasks, and more!

So for that $200, you do get a lot of stuff. I don't think the price is unreasonable. If the pack only contained like 2 or 3 items, then I'd agree with you. And you should keep in mind that the people behind this game need money to keep the servers running.

It's very nicely sorted, including momentary highlights, community picks, all-time favourites... Just go and take a look for yourself, I'm not very good at remembering... Anything :-P
Neverwinter is fun, though I can never play it for more than an hour at a time. In my opinion, it's better than DDO in that it doesn't try to nickel and dime you to death, at least not as much. You can get by in NW without ever spending a penny - try that in DDO without massive grinding, simply put: nearly impossible.

Ah, no worries, thanks anyway; I look forward for checking it out when I get home from work then. :D
It is surprisingly enjoyable game. I don't usually like MMO's, but there's something about it I like. It's perhaps that it has almost like a single player feel about it, despite the world is filled with real people.
