There is no need to avoid MOBA's entirely.
There is the more casual (and fun!) Awesomenauts instead.

Ralackk: I've got 250+ hours into dota 2 now and while it is true that you need to spend 50-100 hours to start understanding hero picks and getting good at them, the game can still be fun with friends. If you get a group of 5 together that don't take the game super seriously you can have a laugh while learning the game and avoid the frustrations of random people yelling at you.

The match making doesn't seem too bad either so you generally have fairly close games, regardless of your teams ability. Sometimes you get stomped, sometimes you don't but as long as you learn and enjoy the game they can be fun.

As a rule I won't play this game unless its with a group of friends communicating over skype.
I became good in DOTA 2 after like 2 hours of playing. Do you know that DOTA 2 is still in it's beta phase?

igortufekcic: ...does it mean that you are not a good gamer.

Honestly, I've tried to get into LoL and Dota 2 on several occasions, but I'm just terrible. No matter how much I try, I'm always shouted at in the chat and a reason why my team loses. It's quite disparaging, to be honest.
You should look into games that attract casual gamers. These kind of gamers, usually never put people down for how they play.

PS
You should check out the Bloodline Champions MOBA. I heard it's for casual players. http://www.bloodlinechampions.com/

The things with MOBAs is that they do require some time to learn how to properly play them. One thing that helped me a lot was watching matches from experienced players on Youtube and reading guides on the internet.

I don't know about Dota 2 because i don't play it (i find it to be much harder for a MOBA-noob like me than LoL), but for LoL you really need to know exactly what you're supposed to do at each role (top lane, jungle, middle, support and adc). And each role requires a specific set of items, talents, runes ans skills. If you're a "jungler", for example, you just NEED to take smite. You can't do jungle without it. For every other role smite is completely useless (since it can only be used to kill minions, not players). Also, if you're doing jungle, you'll probably need the hunter's machete as your first item.

Not only each role requires a specific build, but also your character determines which build you'll use. And even then, you need to adjust your items build according to the situation of the game. For example, if the enemy team is dealing too much magical damage, it's a pretty good idea to buy an item that has magical resistance.

You could also end up in a bad situation depending on which champions the enemy teams has. Some champions are better against specific champions. You might end up in a situation in which the enemy on your line has a champion that can easily counter yours. The best thing you can do in this situation is to play safe (don't go too far from your tower, don't make any risky moves).

It might sound obvious, but here's an advice: avoid dying at all costs. Seriously, the more you get killed the more gold the enemy champions get. Don't feed the enemy champions. A fed up champion can easily snowball and wipe your entire team. If you're not doing well, play safe.

I used to hate MOBAs with passion. But nowadays i'm really enjoying playing a LoL match every now and then. It can be fun if you ignore the toxic community. Just mute everyone if you don't want to listen to them. However, i really recommend that you play with friends for the best possible experience.

In DOTA 2, the game shows you which items are best for your character so one should be able to play the game properly after 2 to 3 hours.

LoL also shows recommended items but it's not exactly that precise and it doesn't show specific role items.

That's not you being bad, that's the community being shit. If you like the game just suck it up and persevere. There's no helping it, I'm afraid!

Actually it's officially released now. My 200-ish dota gifts that people dumped on me were deleted in the process. :'(

dont take the ingame chat in MOBA's too seriously usually its just some dickheads or kids trying to blame someone else to distract from their own stupidity and mistakes

just put everyone that gets on your nerves on the ignore list and keep on practicing ull get better with time :)

Strange. In my Steam's common folder, the folder for DOTA 2 was named dota 2 beta.
I consider MOBA games to be average, not bad but not really great either. However ever since Dota 1 back on Warcraft 3, I just have a pure hate for the community in those games. I say the game would be fun to play with friends every so often but playing with/against players can likely be extremely bad as least in my experience.

Don't worry, you're not alone with that.
