Trade, diplomacy, espionage, conquest--and you thought asteroid mining was a simple operation.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fragile_allegiance]Fragile Allegiance, an open-ended 4X RTS game made by Gremlin Interactive, is available right now on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Fragile Allegiance employs you in the year 2496 as a asteroid mining operation manager somewhere in The Fragmented Sectors. There are six alien races competing with your mother corporation TetraCorp for precious ore--and it’s your job to out-perform all of them. After selling resources to the Federation, the player has to invest his proceeds in interstellar technology, expansion on other asteroids, ships, weapons, spying, and trading. Diplomacy and espionage play a crucial role, as do non-aggression pacts, joint-combat treaties, blackmail, and special agents. All of these combine to make a difference between ruling the galaxy and being sent on a long slow walk through vacuum.

Fragile Allegiance is an excellent addition to the conquer-the-galaxy genre, a combination of SimCity, Civilization, and Master of Orion with complex diplomacy and challenging AI, now available only at GOG.com for $5.99.
I really hate to admit this, but I had NO idea this game even existed...

Always happy to see a more obscure release. Thanks GOG!
I've seen only a few screenshots in a gaming magazine back then, but I might enjoy it when the 4X mood strikes me again.

I even checked out a web site with an extensive list of space based games starting with "Space Wars" and FA wasn't even on it.

FA looks interesting. I'm picking it up.
I'm loving it, its really bringing back the happy memories of K240.

Money well spent, Thanks GoG!

htown1980: ooh. Gremlin. Does this mean we will be getting Premier Manager 2 soon?
Actually, this is not the first of Gremlin's games on GOG. We already have Slipstream 5000, Realms of the Haunting, Litil Divil, and Normality. The more, the merrier. ;)

timeslip: iirc, there's three game speeds, and you can choose whether or not the game pauses in menus. The big problem was that (without cheating) you could only choose your settings at the start of the game, and couldn't change them mid way through.
Sounds good enough for me. Definitely worth a try then.

Oh. My. God.

I had this game - AGES ago - and loved it. This and Ascendancy were lesser-known space strategy games that managed to implement some very innovative ideas.

I tried to find this game a few years back, and I think I managed to locate a version of it, but could never get it working on my newer computer. Instant purchase. Thanks GOG!

Fenixp: you can hurl one of your asteroids against one of the opponent
My favorite thing to do. **** the Mauna. :D
Now if GOG could only start distributing emulated Amiga games... I probably will enjoy this one a lot but still... I WANT K240!!!

Tarhiel: Never heard of this title as well. But that doesn´t mean other folks won´t appreciate it. RTS just isn´t my cup of tea.

Sakkraner: That's probably why I'm (usually more leaned towards TBS games) so hooked to Utopia - it plays like Sim City in space...not like a typical RTS game...the occasionally attacking aliens are more of a heavy disaster you can fight on the tactical level.
You mean Startopia, right? I remember when this game was new, reviews back then said it is a unique game and a good one at that. Even though I´m not strategy fan in general, I´ll probably buy this one just to try it out.

Or Utopia: The Creation of a Nation.
Sweet!

I played a demo of this about two hundred years ago when I was a wee lad and the only way to get a demo was to buy a gaming magazine with an added CD. I vaguely remember being overwhelmed by the amount of options. I was trying to find and play the game a few years ago, but never got it to work on a modern system. So it's GOG to the rescue once more!

Nah, he does indeed mean Utopia which is mostly an Amiga classic quite similar to Fragile Allegiance (or rather its predecessor K240) but it played even more like Sim City in a SciFi scenario.
Have it on CD but still an instant buy for me

Cheers GOG

I have all the weekly sale items again though so roll on next week

Ah, all right, I see. Thought he meant Startopia.

Is this game the MSDOS version?
