A hunter lurks beneath the waves!

Silent Service 1+2, a bundle of two legendary MicroProse classic submarine simulation war games, dating back to 1985 & 1990, now available on GOG.com for only $5.99!

From the second you take command, you'll live by the motto FIND 'EM, CHASE 'EM, SINK 'EM, as you follow instruments, charts and your instincts in search of hostile convoys. Is a submerged daylight periscope attack best or do you charge in on the surface at night using only radar bearings to guide you? Do you fire a spread of your precious torpedoes or can you close the range and pick off the enemy with a single torpedo shot? These decisions and many more are yours to make as you take your place among the elite ranks of the Silent Service!

Silent Service 1+2 includes MicroProse's both legendary submarine warfare titles, that will bring you all the challenging combat versus single ships and heavily escorted convoys you could handle. All the critical battle stations are represented: engine room, conning tower and ship’s bridge. The games present you with an infinite variety of situations using complete maps and charts for the entire Southwest Pacific. With a wide selection of historical scenarios from individual attacks to patrol missions, and clear distraction-free graphics that allows you to stay on top of the situation, this classic pack provides you with everything that you need to feel the excitement of actual submarine combat.

Battle stations! Prepare to fully submerge in Silent Service 1+2, for only $5.99, on GOG.com!

Hmm, are the PC versions any good? I think I played the first Silent Service on Amiga, and liked it quite a bit. I don't recall if I have ever played the second one.

Are these games nowadays obsolete due to newer subsims (in e.g. GOG and DotEmu)?
Good start to the year, with many interesting releases. Glad to see these classics here.
I remember playing Silent Service on my C64 ages ago and i never got far... :)
The Silent Service games are not my cup of tea but it's good to see more old games here!
I remember SS1 on the Atari ST great game back then. Looks worse on the pc version.

Dont think i will buy this again having played this once and now simulations dont interest me.
More and more Tommo games lately. So I guess we've got the chance to see Putt-Putt games here! :)
Oh cool, another game from back when Sid Meier was actuall a game designer, not just some guy who's name they stuck on the box
The question is: Are these games better than Silent Hinter 2?

I don't mean the graphics. The gameplay is important for me.
Awesome release, decent price. How's the copy protection handled? Do you have to have the PDF open to identify the subs/ships or has it been circumvented?

The Amiga and ST versions of SS1 were the definitive versions by a long stretch. The DOS version came out in 1985, so accordingly, it is technically on a par with the C64 and ZX Spectrum versions.

SS2 on PC was much better, but it was still slightly outdone by the Amiga/ST versions.

No. They're quite basic by comparison, especially SS1.
