lackoo1111: "Retail games are genurally more expensive then steam store games..... -.-"
avatar
Navagon: You've got Euro Steam. Of course that quote is going to seem like sarcastic black humour. However, if you look at retail outlets here and Steam prices,
However, there are far cheaper alternatives, so using that as an excuse for buying from Steam (outside of a sale) is a piss poor one.

StingingVelvet: It is on really old games, and most of their sales, but if you are the type of gamer who gets games early on you save a TON of money in the US by buying on amazon. I routinely get brand new games on release day for $30-40 because of Amazon's video game credits and discounts. I got Alpha Protocol on release day for $34... Singularity for $25... Prince of Persia FS for $25... etc. etc..

So a completely unsubstantiated point and a completely retarded point. I see the standard of Steam forum posting hasn't changed.
One thing that actually saddens me about GG is that they don't have "exclusivity" to their titles - or I overlooked them, if any. I just sent them an email suggesting this. Hopefully it'll boost their sales. I really want GG to succeed. Nice folks all around, especially their support. Any chimp can do a CTRL + C CTRL + V, but it takes real heart to get down to personalized support.
It'd be really cool if more people can chime in to those chaps on this too.

I love GOG as well, but you have to wonder if they were as big as Steam if their support would remain so personalized.

Their support has actually been declining - or more specifically, not keeping pace with the number of games they are releasing. Personally, I think they need to hire more staff, but then as you have proposed: will their support be as personalized?
I suppose it's up to them at the end of the day how they want to tackle this problem.
By the way, just so we don't get any confusion here, the previous post was about Gamersgate, while this one is about GOG.

Not sure what you mean be exclusivity...you mean like Steamworks/Impulse::Reactor? They've purposely avoided anything like that.
Several years back, when they were pretty much just Paradox's digi distribution outlet, GG actually did have client software. They eventually dropped the requirement, and now they're purposely avoiding any sort of locking of software to GG beyond the account and initial activation.

No, I meant like exclusive content. For example, Steam has exclusive content for Tropico 3 which cannot be found in other distribution outlets. Likewise, only the Steam version of Borderlands has the Secret Armory DLC.
I just realized that Sword of the Stars Complete on GG has exclusive content. I think, though, that they can expand this to more of their titles, to entice more people to buy from them. In fact, I would never have bought SOTS retail if I'd known the GG version comes with exclusive content.

Aaaah, gotcha. Well, D2D and Impulse and Gamestop sometimes manage to pull exclusives, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Actually, with SOTS there was a new Complete Edition released a couple months ago that includes the Argos Naval Yard add on. It isn't GG exclusive, though. :)
Ive spent the last 3 days dealing with endless frustrations regarding DoW 2. First, the webstore made me wait 9 hours before actually sending me any emails regarding my purchase. Then I put it up on steam. THEN from steam it gave me GFWL. Which made the game slow down. Then I had to deal with all of this file crap in order to fix my games problems. And I couldn't find the folder to my game because I hadn't dealt with a steam game before...
:sigh: Steam sucks.
Anyone know how to fix the blank icon bug for steam? Whenever I install a game on Steam, the icon is for an unknown file extension rather than the game icon.

So:
1) You bought the game from another webstore and didn't get your email with the keys in time so its Steams fault.
2) It also needs GFWL which is a publisher/developer decision and is clearly stated on the store page of both Steam and THQs store page but you didn't bother reading and so Steam's at fault.

The Complete edition comes with some little nifties. From Gamersgate:
NEW EXCLUSIVE CONTENT
* 3 new multiplayer galaxy maps - Sinusoid, Helix, and Mountain
* 1 new scenario, "The Antiquarians"
* 6 new player avatars, one per race
* Additional loading splash screens, detailing more of the SotS universe
Hopefully we'll get to see more of such content in their games.

This! I have this problem with some games, and it's pretty annoying. Most of the shortcuts work perfect, but some has this blank thingie instead. And we're talking about automatic shortcuts to desktop, if someone is wondering... :)
