King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, and Police Quest series, as well as many other Activision classics, 60% off! Any Questions?

Nowadays, hearing the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> your mind will probably follow the train of thought inevitably leading to the realms of role-playing games. But 20 years ago? In the 1990s, when <i>Sierra Online</i> was the towering mountain in the landscape of game development, the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> was almost synonymous with an adventure game. Last week we did celebrate the fact that point-and-click adventure genre is doing almost as well as in the good old days. Today, we take a look back at the best that said good old days had to offer. Retrogamers, rejoice! For we give you the [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/activision_weekend_promo_170114]Winter Quest Fest, with all the quest titles form the GOG.com classic catalog, as well as many other memorable titles from the nostalgic treasure chest that is Activision catalog, with a substantial 60% off discount! Let's take a closer look at one of the adventures that await you, shall we?

Quest for Glory 1-5 is an amazing collection of Sierra's innovative action-RPGs. Each of the five games can be played as a whole but you can also treat the series as one big adventure, as the character and his accumulated wealth can carry on from one game into another. Become a mage, a thief, or a knight and explore the five huge worlds, each based on a different culture and mythology, from Germanic fairy tales, through Arabian and Slavic folklore, right down to Greek myths. Experience the game that set many standards in the "new school" of computer RPG. All that, for a mere $3.99. Let our user Rambutaan tell you a little more about that timeless gem!

Rambutaan's GOGgame Story: Quest for Glory

Note, that the game featured by Rambutaan is the EGA original Quest for Glory, but you get both this and the updated VGA version in our package. Another classic quest series--the one that started it all, in fact--is the long-lived saga known as King's Quest (available in thee packs King's Quest 1+2+3, King's Quest 4+5+6, and King's Quest 7+8, for $3.99 each). Let the classic gaming paladin, our user Rknight718 tell you more about his favorite, King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human!

Rknight718's GOGGame Story: King's Quest 3

Feeling a little hobbity, not in the mood for an adventure? No problem! There's a ton of other games--action games, strategy games, driving games, and whatnot-- in our promo page. All of them available 60% off, until Tuesday, January 21, at 4:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

Nice promo! I've bought the Quest for Glory pack this time. I missed Quest for Glory III I used to play when I was a kid. :)

tinyE: Went ahead and snagged I76 because my original disc has been played to the point of warping! :P The I snagged 82 if for no other reason then to make sure I have the set.

ANYONE who EVER sat around as a kid on Saturday watching the Dukes of Hazard has to buy these games. Do not miss out on this sale as your opportunity to snag them. Are they the best driver/shooters out there? No....not even close...but the thrill it gives 30 and 40 somethings out there is worth the price and then some.
Count me in that crowd (though it was not a Saturday morning for me I'm sure).

May I ask what specifically about those games' driving segments are reminiscent of the Dukes of Hazzard driving sequences as opposed to any other generic off-road driving game out there? Or is it just more of a general vibe/feeling you personally get when you play them?

It's both. There a few standard racing bits but here are always short cuts and you are expected to use that to your advantage, and the physics are almost non-existent. Oh sure, you'll get rocked around and if you screw up a jump or turn you will eat it but it's not like other off road games where you had to break your neck just to keep facing the same direction. :P Mind you "off road" is a little misleading. Most of the speed stuff takes place on actual roads be they gravel or paved. The times you are literally off road you won't be racing but shooting and shooting is 90% of the game. It will take you a while to get the feel of how to lead enemies with machine gun fire but just keep at it and the first few times you play you might want to keep the settings easy until you get over the learning curve. And remember...you are driving 70's muscle cars with rocket launchers on them; armor and weight are key. This ain't NFS! You want a Lamborghini Diablo then looks someplace else! :P

Thank you TinyE. You make a very good case for me to get them. It seems like they are racing versions of Twisted Metal or Wipeout with recent-past vehicles. I was never into the NFS or GT games; when it comes to racing the simpler the better is what works for me - I just could not get into them if the mechanics beyond a certain level of complexity. From what I can tell these are simple racing shooters, and I can enjoy those. However, I did just pick up Re-Volt during the Christmas sale and that one seems to be sufficient as my racing fix for the moment, so going to wishlist these two for now.
I ended up getting Police Quest 1+2+3+4. I already had a few games on the list; a lot more are on my wishlist, but I didn't want to go too crazy.

Kunovski: bought quest for glory, the only quest series that I enjoyed as a kid :) I do have number 4 (the best one) on a CD but now I can throw it away :D

wackyanne: Or sell it, especially if you have the box and other materials. There are still those who like hardcopies. Weirdos :P
sadly it was bundled with a gaming magazine so it's only a disc in an ugly paper bag, and apart from the game there are demos and pictures and various nonsense...

also, it's in Czech :D
THIS week's weekend promo is an hour late unless I've missed a post - I wonder if they're gearing up for some special announcement?
