The Inbetweeners
Brass Eye

Fever_Discordia: Ooh yes - Brass Eye, not forgetting 'The Day Today' The Chris Morris spoof news (as opposed to spoof documentary) thing that came before it, which was also where Steve Cogan's 'Alan Partridge' Character first appeared, the Alan Partridge stuff is worth a look too!
They actually did a radio show before that called On The Hour - worth finding and listening to as well...
I enjoyed most of Torchwood and Atlantis from the BBC (pretty sure they were both made for the bbc)
Forgot to mention my own favorites out of the ones mentioned

Sherlock, absolutely loving this new series. Highly recommended.

Bean/Blackadder, obviously.
Sharpe/Hornblower. Love these too, Sharpe got a bit long towards the end but it was great nonetheless.
'Allo 'Allo was great.

Merlin - Haven't seen this mentioned yet. It seemed a bit stale in the beginning but I think the show got progressively better as it went on to the point where I was always looking forward to the next episode.

Robin Hood (2006) wasn't that bad either.

Paradox - sadly negatively reviewed but I certainly think it was worth watching. (Something sends images of future bad events and they have to rush to prevent it from happening)

In the Flesh . Turns out that Zombies can be 'cured' and this is about one boy who returns home after it happened. Don't expect something fast paced or with deep intrigue, it's mostly about the family. Lost some tears on that one :)

Misfits Surprisingly engaging. About a bunch of misfits forced into doing community work when a mysterious cloud suddenly ends up giving them superpowers... Some really wacko characters in there but it was pretty good to watch. Sadly one of the main characters had to be replaced second season and I couldn't bear to watch his replacement try to fill his shoes (despite him supposedly being a new character in the series)

Will be looking into Jekyll, Survivors and Black Mirror as a result of this thread :)

THUNDERBIRDS
Forgot to mention 'Later ... with Jools Holland' in my previous reply.
Not to mention 1 or 2 other great music shows I've forgotten the name of.
+1 for AbFab, Black Adder and Keeping Up Appearances

I also enjoy Shameless which is a satire/comedy/drama about british estate life set in a fictional housing estate in Manchester. (There is also a US version of this one but I don't follow that.)

Barry_Woodward:
The Shadow Line
Utopia
Out of the Unknown (semi-purged from bbc archives)
avatar
mabrookes: I don't think anyone has mentioned Ideal yet, that was a fantastic series.

avatar
Theta_Sigma: I met Doug Bradley actually, fantastic guy; very friendly and you can tell he loves his fans. I got that vibe from him, Malcolm McDowell, Robert Englund, Felicia Day, Voltaire, Tom Savini, Tom Noonan, Nathan Fillion, Christopher Lloyd, Colin Baker, George Takei, Ron Perlman, Carrie Fisher, and a few others I've had the good fortune to meet.
avatar
mabrookes: Would love to meet some of those people. I have met Bill Baily, Dylan Moran and Derren Brown before. I have met Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones (she was filming in the university nearby for the new series of Utopia that will be coming out and my gf was helping out).

I also briefly met Natalia Tena who played Tonks in Harry Potter. The street outside my building was used to shoot scenes for a film coming out later this year. I attached a photo of the view from the window of our flat; we were looking straight out at the filming crew, it was pretty interesting. The film is low budget but sounds ok http://www.screendaily.com/news/alex-garcias-residue-begins-shoot/5063750.article.

The list after that gets very unimpressive, with Hulk Hogan and Charlotte Church being the highlights!
Those are some awesome people indeed, Natalia Tena in particular would be awesome to meet in my opinion. On the topic of Utopia, that was definitely an odd series, I remember watching it on Space and thinking how odd it was for them showing something that graphic that early on in the day.
avatar
Theta_Sigma: Yeah, Hattie would be another good choice. Well to be honest I liked having both on board the Red Dwarf; it was one of the things I really enjoyed about the reconstitution of the Red Dwarf at the end of the original run.
avatar
ReynardFox: Yeah I agree, Norman was on fire in the last season too.

"I hope we don't get stopped by the cops, they don't like it when you're rat-arsed"
Haha, yea. I remember when they first showed him back when the episode aired way back when and being all "yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes" as I missed Holly in the episodes previous. My favourite quote of Holly still has to be from "The End"..."They're all dead Dave...(12x)" :P.
avatar
Theta_Sigma: Actually, George R R Martin is from New Jersey. While you are correct on most of what you said, for example the locations (filmed in Ireland), he is very much an American. I kind of lost faith in the series (though I still love the books), so I'm giving season 4 a chance otherwise I think I might stick to the novels.
avatar
deadfolk: Not to derail the thread, but I couldn't stop myself from pointing out that Ireland is not in Britain/UK.

Having said that, I think that GoT may have been partially filmed in Northern Ireland, which is a different country from the Republic of Ireland and IS part of the UK.

/pedantry
Oh I didn't mean offense, but I meant Northern Ireland (aka the part of the UK), I was not trying to generalize at all. :)
avatar
Theta_Sigma: Like others have said, I have to concur with:
Dr. Who and the Daleks & Dalek Invasion of Earth (Peter Cushing movies but worth every second of glorious cheese)
avatar
Fever_Discordia: Oh yeah, Peter Cushing, of course, committing the cardinal sin of saying
"Hello, I'm Dr Who!"
In those films!
I know it's not a canon Doctor Who set of films, but I still enjoyed Peter Cushing in the role. That being said I look at the films as either "fiction within fiction/play within a play" as in the story exists in the DWU like the play in Hamlet or what have you, OR possibly a World of Fiction story since that is actually a thing in the DWU. Regardless it is still a fun, cheesy, and cornballish movie to watch. :)

Nice to see mentions to Sapphire and Steel and Star Cops, both great shows in my opinion (S&S hasn't aged as badly, though - the effects and 'tech' in Star Cops might make a modern audience snigger. The stories are still great).

It's sad, however, to see no mention of The Sandbaggers - the single greatest espionage show ever made, and royally homaged/ripped-off by Greg Rucka for the Queen and Country series. If you only ever watch one spy show on tv, make it this one! It was so realistic, MI6 made the writer 'disappear' (well, possibly - he certainly disappeared in myserious circumstances!).

Also, anyone remember Peter Davison in A Very Peculiar Practice? I enjoyed that one, both seasons, but it was.... odd. Surreal. Still, worth a watch!
What a list of watchables! Nearly everything I can think of is already mentioned - special ups for Blackadder, of course (my favorite is the second series, but everyone has their taste), and Space.

Not always good but fairly fun is Primeval, a ludicrous but entertaining series about time-portal anomalies that open at unpredictable intervals around England, allowing dinosaurs and other passing monsters to come through into modern times. A Canadian variant, Primeval: New World, came to Syfy this past year, though I have not seen any of that.
The Persuaders
UFO
Space 1999

Heck, maybe even The Saint, and Ivanhoe (yes i'm a roger moore fanboy)
Older good shows from Blighty:

The Tripods
The Day Of The Triffids (remake)
The Onedin Line

Oh yes, and Hammer House of Horror

StingingVelvet: I really want to watch Broadchurch but it's not on DVD in the US yet.
It was on BBCA not long ago. I watched it, starved for my favorite Doctor as I was, but it was not my type of show. All drama, no action. I also hear one of our major networks is going to be bringing this story across the pond, but calling it something else.

Did anyone mention The Good Life (AKA Good Neighbors) yet? One of the few sitcoms I actually love, and a top-notch quartet of leading talent in that show.

I keep meaning to check out To The Manor Born as well.

And I'm a big Yes Minister fan, so I had to watch the similar No Job for a Lady. A good show, though the first season is the better of them due to the casting.

None taken, I was just being pedantic. :)
