While personally I have not had any problems getting my EE running and have enjoyed it ever since I thought I will offer some of my observations given what is happening in the forums...
Honestly I think EE has been incorrectly marketed/presented by the developers and I believe that if anything GOG failed to correctly handle the backup feature.
EE should not have been advertised as a patch but as an expansion pack (free or otherwise) this would denote the fact that in a way it is a new product, one that may and will have problems on day one. People come here expecting a patch, patches generally fix things... (unless you are used to dragons flying backwards).
Additionally the whole GOG backup Witcher 2 option should have been delayed for a few weeks to give actual GOG customers priority and reliability of getting their version running since they were the loyal customers who paid for the product here to begin with.
In the end I can see why it was done the way it was done. Witcher 1 had EE, so should Witcher 2 right?. And offering backup feature on launch day would have directed more future potential customers to GOG on said day than running the same process/promotion few weeks later.
Maybe there is a lesson we all could learn in all of this?
