"I already have this elsewhere" button on storefront or game page

As the name suggests, just a button/check-box you could use to mark the game as one you already own elsewhere. This could remove it from the front page of the store, but not from the full lists (by letter, by genre etc). At the very least, it could grey it out like "in library" games on Steam.

Speaking of which, this could be made even more powerful (but absolutely OPTIONAL) if you could synchronise it with Steam and/or other proprietary software. They're working on Cross-play, why not this?

Seriously, I need this function. Yes, blame my memorable capability. But, I really need this. SERIOUSLY.

And hey, GOG, also you took these on your shelves like "BUNDLE", "COLLECTION", or

"I DON'T HAVE ANY FREAKING IDEA WHAT THE HECK THIS EDITION IS BUT I ALREADY OWN THIS FXXKING GAME."

Absolutely yes. Why fill the shop with stuff I already own, if there could be new stuff I'd actually want to buy. Please be smarter, GOG.

Chiming in on this to say YES, PLEASE. I've allowed the GOG launcher to catalogue several other platforms through which I have games -- why can't this information link up with the shop? If GoG Galaxy isn't going to apply that information when I shop, what's the point of using the app, really? (The social aspects are not of interest to me, specifically.)

This feature has been requested for a long time.
Can we please make it happen?
I want to use GOG's suggestions to discover and BUY games that I like, but I already have some many games on Steam/HIB/etc!
I am not going to buy games I already own, removing them from suggestions (and being able to see them in the library on the website) would be sweet.
Let me buy more games... that I don't already have!

I did my integrations with Steam, UPlay and origin just for this purpose, to be able to filter the store page with my games on other stores.

PLEASE make this now that you can sync with other stores. YES you will lose out on double purchases. BUT you will get LOTS of new purchases, BECAUSE this will make Galaxy the only and default store client for people.

I'd like any algorithm to learn what games I like, so that it will be more likely to show me things I would be interested in. For that to work this feature is a must. I own all the Witcher games, and none of them are on GoG. I always loved the series but 3 is easily one of (if not the) best RPG I have ever had the enjoyment of playing. And I am old so that's saying something. Of course GoG will not realize this with all my Witcher games, playtime, achievements etc on Steam. This would solve that to some extent. It won't see hours played and achievements earned and so forth or it would be flawless. But it's still a useful tool.

I just bought Simply: RED and had a bunch of the games that I already own on steam auto-added to my GoG account, when I specifically wanted to be able to give them away. There's nothing in the ad that says that they'll auto-redeem products to your account, and the lack of ability to tell them that you already own the products feels pretty shady.

"If you already own any of the games included in this collection, a redeem code that you can share with a friend will be automatically sent to you via e-mail"

That doesn't say anything about where you own the products.

This would let me see GOG-specific features, like cloud save, and (hopefully) support for mods (like the Ultima A/V upgrades). It would also give GOG a chance to target sales where a lot of people own games but haven't bought them on GOG.

This actually ties into a feature I'm frustrated that GOG and Steam don't really have. When looking through the storefront on GOG, it'll say if you've wishlisted something but NOT if you already own it; you have to go to the game's page to find that out. When you own over a thousand games between the two sites, sometimes it's quite easy to forget what you own where. I'd love the "already owns" account cross-over, but I'd ALSO really like it if GOG and Steam could just STOP showing me games I already own when I'm browsing sales.

Very much missing this. I have a few games elsewhere, plus a number of games I'm not interested in that I would love to mark in some way so I can quickly ignore it, or better yet, not ever see it unless I search for the title.

They still don't have that on Steam, and since I'm willing to repurchase games here that I own there but would NEVER buy a game that's available here on Steam I'd really love for it to go the other direction...

This is overdue to have on GOG.
However for it to be viable, there needs to be a bit more than the single button in this wish.

1. Being able to say what format you have the game in. (physical or digital)
eg: The Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall.
I have both pre-release shareware versions, Bethesda's free release, and the CD from The Elder Scrolls Anthology. So 3 digital and 1 physical.

2. Being able to say what versions of the game you have.
eg: The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
3 copies of the 2 CD base game.
2 copies of the expansion Tribunal
1 copy of the expansion Bloodmoon
3 copies of Morrowind GOTY (2 x 4 CD UK boxed, and 1 x 4 DVD from The Elder Scrolls Anthology)

Would love to see this honestly, especially with so many GoG games being either older games (which you own on disc) or popular indies (which are on dozens of platforms and stores). Even a little symbol similar to the <3 for your wishlist would be enough

I'm eager to see how the new account linking between Steam & GOG plays out for this.
It would be great (if it's possible) that down the line, besides just looking for copies of games to import...
that when check against Steam runs, it could also detect all the games there and auto-tag the duplicated games in GOG as "owned" (in some way that is visually different from the indications of it already owned in GOG).
If it used tags somehow, still allow the user to still edit the tags later, in case the system makes a mistake matching somewhere (bundles vs individual games or maybe special versions? Just guessing at potential issues).

Personally, I wouldn't already own games fully suppressed (unless it's some store account option to do so), since I agree with appreciating sales on favorites to buy for friends or finding recommendations based on that game. But anything would probably be better than the running Excel sheet I try to maintain of software from GOG, Steam, Humble Bundle, 3rd party or physical copies. That's enough of a headache, so I'm trying to be optimistic! :)

If this proposition would happen to take wind on its sails, It would be fantastic if it could be coupled with a possibility to provide your own launch path/ launch script/etc. with those games that you have elsewhere. This wouldn't just mean Steam, but also original installations of old games and even cross-architecture installations (for those, who have Linux and like to tinker with Windows games).

I don't own any digital games on Steam or elsewhere, but I'm very good at taking care of my old, old game CDs. The moment they become incompatible with Windows version Whatever, I'll be looking here at GoG for replacements. But until then, I, too, would greatly appreciate this funcion, "I already have this elsewhere". I woudn't want these games to disappear but instead appear greyed out like my GoG-games. Bonus for me: I would still know if/when these games got on sale. Possible bonus for GoG: This info could be used to make the function, "Other users also bought...", even more accurate and a better teaser for other potential buyers.

To me, this would be about good will. Many of us by our games here if there is any option at all. This would be helpful in 2 ways.
1) As much as I hate them. Flash/Insomnia sales. If I have 60 seconds to buy, it helps to know if I own it - RIGHT NOW. I've lost the chance to buy before so I didn't get a game I already owned.
2)It would help me determine what games to buy/replace. The last part is if they only even partially implement it. Say a box that says, I own a DRM copy somewhere else. This is the one I would like most.

I think this is a great Idea.
And if there are some worries about loosing some sales: I wouldn't be against the Idea, that when you open the client and one of your marked games is on sale you get a notification with "The Game you marked is now on sale at our store. So now it's your chance to get it drm free in your galxy library for a small price. "
I know, that I would take up that offer for some games and I'm pretty sure, others would too, making a source of income out of games, that otherwise wouldn't bee bought by us.
The only problem with this, that I see, is to make it in a way, that doesn't invades our privacy, but if you can do it, go for it.

@Raene: Might I suggest <a href="http://IsThereAnyDeal.com?" class="light_un" target="_blank">IsThereAnyDeal.com?</a> It's what I use and it can also notify you of sales.

(Note: I maintain the userscript for importing from sites that don't have public profiles but, at the moment, GOG support is broken because GOG released their new site design during the lead-up to exams. I hope to have it fixed within the next week or two.)

I'm asking GOG for this because Galaxy is still small enough that they might actually listen to my request.

Steam is an industry powerhouse now and if it hasn't fixed issues that cause far more public uproar (like some semblance of quality control or filtering out asset dump "games") then the chances of them adding to a feature like this is simply non-existent.

Also, Steam has always invited the double-buy - they can afford to push prices much lower, so you wind up buying extra copies for the sake of minor convenience.

But again, ALL THAT ASIDE... this is about screen real estate. Literally half of my GOG store page is stuff I already own. You want "bad for business" and shit that costs them money? That is it, right there.

Just out of interest, are you requesting this same feature also from Steam? If not, why not?

I agree with the other guy that this would mostly work against GOG. If e.g. Steam doesn't have this feature (to filter away games on Steam store that you already own in e.g. GOG.com) but GOG/Galaxy has that for Steam games, then it would make it even more preferable to buy all games by default from Steam.

After all, then you can mark it as "own elsewhere" on GOG. If you buy on GOG instead, then you can't mark it similarly on Steam.

@Mattias: I quite see your point, but Galaxy is by its very nature at war with Steam. It's a rising Steam-like wannabe (and I for one want to see it succeed). This also means there's a high percentage of people using it who already use Steam and expect the same features.
Steam is the incumbent, but it's also starting to wear out its good will, partly due to ill-conceived money grabs (*cough*cough*75% overhead for paid mods*cough*cough). This makes other platforms, particularly less intrusive ones, an increasingly tempting alternative.
GOG already offers everything DRM-free, but the more options they offer that the competition (let's be real here, Steam, Steam and Steam) doesn't, the more pull they have with potential clients.
And again, even if you completely ignore Steam and other sellers, it simply boils down to a question of store front real estate. If half the front page is taken up with stuff I already own, even stuff I love, it's wasted space that would be better served showing me stuff I don't.

Yeah, that's a good point. I wouldn't complain at all if a feature like this got implemented. More crossover functunality between clients are always good for the consumer.

I have a feeling though that GoG with Galaxy seriously aims to go to war with Steam in the future, and I can't see them "encouraging" people to buy games anywhere else. Is it in GoG's interest to give people the option to buy a game for a couple of dollars cheaper elsewhere and then tick it of as "owned on another client"?

But like I said, I wouldn't complain if it got implemented. I just don't see it as realistic.

@Mattias: I quite agree, but you're forgetting that people are much more likely to buy stuff they don't already have. This is why Steam lets you filter out games you already own (on Steam) - to make room for things you're more likely to buy. This is especially true on a laptop or other lower-res platform where it fits fewer items per page. I personally get a grand total of 6 games on-screen when I fire up Galaxy and if I own two of them that's already an entire third of what they're offering before I have to start hunting. They've actually improved their storefront since I first posted this, but even now when I scroll down I still already own half of all I'm seeing. That's wasted space for stuff I'm not buying.
It's very possible to chase all the dollars and not be a dick about it - this is why GOG eschews DRM. I *want* to throw money at them, but I'm not going to do that for stuff I don't want to buy again.

I have a very hard time seeing this implemented the way described in Galaxy. As a company, GoG of course want people to buy as many games as possible through them, so why would they implement something that work against that? It would be kind of stupid to NOT try to sell a game to someone, even if they already own it elsewhere. It is after all a company we’re speaking of, not a charity. :)

@StevyB: Yes and no. The origin is similar (non-GOG games) but the purpose is very different.
I don't want to add my entire non-GOG collection into Galaxy.
I just don't want the GOG storefront cluttered up with games I already own elsewhere.

@fronzelneekburm @ExileNZ

Exactly. I use IsThereAnyDeal.com to keep track of all the DRM-free games I own on GOG, Humble, etc. but that doesn't help with the problem that I own so many games through Humble that they usually push the stuff I want to see out of thing's like GOG's "If you like X, then try Y" lists.

Something like that, yeah. But a single "elsewhere" would be much easier to implement to begin with than separate categories/buttons for Steam, Origin, Uplay, CD/DVD, Humble Store and all the other sources.
That could certainly make a useful advanced function, but I'm thinking simplicity and ease-of-use at this stage.

At least for now, I suggest using a tag (like "already own on Steam") to mark the games you already own elsewhere.

Truly fascinating, I'm so happy for your excellent memory (or your small collection, whichever).
But this tool isn't primarily about remembering what you've bought (although it's helpful in that regard) - it's about removing stuff you already have from the front page, to leave room for new things.

I ain't voting for a tool that caters for an impulse-buying steamtard crowd that can't even bloody remember the games they mindlessly blew their money on in the past. Try shopping responsibly, I say!

@VikingDream: Yes, that's exactly what I'm getting at. I have about 300 on Steam, and a negligible handfull on other digital platforms, but folders, draws and shelves full of DVD titles. Some I buy again, but mostly not.

This is for games you have on Steam or on CD/DVD, etc.
