New and improved Community Wishlist in progress
As much as I wish feature the speed of Galaxy development makes me believe right now GOG has their hands full and Heroic Games Launcher almost works perfect for this purpose, been using for the past year so far no issues. (Bonus: it works on Linux and Steam Deck too)
The oldest comment on here is from 2012 and it's now 2023. 11 years have passed and most of the things people are asking for as improvements are just not happening. If this is really "in progress" can we maybe, I don't know... see some progress. There's some desperately needed updates to improve both useability by us the consumers and by you, GOG.
1. A better system for checking for duplicate requests OR at least a better way for users to suggest wishes that should be combined. If nothing else maybe GOG should create an official list based off something like the known titles on the mobygames video game database. Then have users vote for games that are on the list and not just entering titles randomly. A submission page for games they couldn't find could be separated. That way it would eliminate duplicates and clean up the wishlists while still allowing for people to suggest games that aren't on the list. Additionally in the database of listed games youcould easily not which games cannot be added and why so people don't just think they are missing or keep requesting them. This would enure more accurate vote counts, cleaner wishlist, and be easier to use both for users and GOG. Maybe this request was too ambiguous so for those GOG employees saddled with the task of looking through and making sense of the requests, I've summarized my (and everyone else's) suggestions for improvements in this one comment.
2. A better user interface. I've voted for plenty of games and on the main Community Wishlist page I can see a little snippet of stats such as how many wishes I've voted on and how many are complete, but no way to see exactly which ones they were without searching specific titles and scrolling through endless wishes looking for ones I've voted on or ones that say in-progress or complete. I would think it could also be integrated into our regular community profiles, but if not some small separate community wishlist prfile that gives us the details behind those stats would be great.
3. The ability to delete ones own comments and/or rescind votes would also be appreciated.
4. Better sorting options. It would be great to be able to view only completed wishes or only in-progress ones. Right now the only sorting options are based on total votes and recent activity.
5. If nothing else, perhaps you could recruit members to moderate the list. Users who have a certain level of engagement with GOG community and perhaps own at least a minimum number of games on GOG (some measure to try and make sure they will not try to adversely manipulate the data). Then those moderators could come on when they have time and do the work of combining duplicate
It would be great to see the list of games in community wishlist for which I voted. And the button to suggest merging with another game (for duplicates).
The comment below say it all is needed, this place is a mess and i doubt the report button works, useless to use this way.
What‘s really needed is a wishlist that checks for dublicates before one can post a wish for a game because there is way to many dublicates and it needs to show if a game is unable to be added to GOG when cleared by the GOG team for it being impossible due to legal issues like licencing or if already spoken to publishers and they it clearly stated it won‘t come to GOG
Yesterday a game was removed from my wishlist and GOG didn't notify me which one. Wishlist should notify about removals.
I was so hopeful the first time I saw this was in progress. Now I just gave it up.
It's been 8 years :(
I like the way the OP wants a 'new and improved' something, without giving any details of how it should be improved XD
Please solve the problem of duplicates somehow.
why
This doesn't make any sense. Why would anyone want this? New? New how? How would you improve the community wishlist? Why are people saying they want the wishlist deleted? has everyone gone mad?
I think many people would appreciate the option to delete their own comments on the wishlist. Maybe you could implement an auto-delete function. It could help keep the wishlist clean and tidy. I really hope that GOG will flush/reset the forums and the wishlist when beta is over. We need to start over with a clean slate.
There is also a lot of wishes that are either duplicate or will never be realised. GOG could make a list of request that peoples already asked them but that they can't/don't want to do, so peoples stop waiting for something that will never happen. They could also make a system so if a request get reported to many time for being a duplicate, it get deleted and the creator have to wait a bit to create another request.
PLEASE add a way to see the wishes you voted for and the ones that you added. Also a way to unvote a wish would be cool, in case someone change his mind about a wish.
There are so many duplicates! Why can't people just search!
Am echoing the wish to see everything that I've voted on, created, or commented on in the Community Wishlist. Also improved logic for handling duplicate entries.
I hope, there will be ability to remove your own suggestions/unvote things. Also - there should be place to check everything, you voted for
What I'd love would be a little more transparancy in terms of what is and isn't doable. If there's a request for a game or feature which knowlingly can't be done, either for technical, practical or licensing reasons, some kind of acknowledgement of that would be hugely appreciated.
My biggest wish is for the comments to be readable. No more broken hypertext (showing link text, line break text, etc.). Other improvements commented on here are also great, e.g. "games wishlist to draw from a single database", "more sorting options", "more categories".
Community Wishlist version 3.0:
1a) most difficult request: create a form where user select a game from the db-sites like mobygames/gamerankings/metacritic instead of adding it manualy as now - it`ll prevent from creating over9000 copies of the same game wish
1b) if par. 1a is impossible to do then we need more people to admin wishes and create additional pars (name/year/genre/os-platform/dev-pub/metacritic score)
2) user can see wishes he created
3) stop convert texts to html-code (<a href=" ><br /> class="light_un" target=" etc.)
The community wishlist is a great concept, but the community has to take more responsibility. There are so many duplicated wishes on the list, and it makes the system very inefficient.
Couldn't GOG design a system that can recognize duplicated wishes? The system should be able to say: This wish is already on the wishlist. Making a search before adding a wish is obviously too much of a responsibility for some people, so we need a system where you can't just add whatever you want, whenever you want.
While we wait I urge everyone to help keep the community wishlist clean and tidy. Whenever you see a duplicate, report it.
I agree, manual sorting is a must have!! Please vote for manual rearranging over here, too: www.gog.com/wishlist/site/ability_to_manually_rearrange_personal_wishlist
Manual sorting of wishlist would be good.
Still waiting for the wishlist to be improved. Also, if GOG would only stop manipulating wishlist entries, that alone would be an improvement.
Yes, it needs a good overhaul. It would help not just the community, but GOG as well, in many ways. First by getting good, reasonable requests upvoted, and not hidden in this swamp.
They should also separate simple requests such as "add support for my language", or things like the "stay DRM free" request, and technical features request. Where you should outline the problem or weakness in more technical terms, and not just propose a simple solution.
As I'm sure there are many technical people here that can just see a weakness by looking at how the site behaves, and instantly know a fix or general improvement. And describe the problem technically, and propose a neat technical solution.
It would ease the burden on GOG's webdevelopers.
I would love the CW to be integrated in the Galaxy client and come out of beta!
Is this still on the way? Will the Community Wishlist exit it's current "beta" state? I very much hope so. Especially if what the very bottom blue comment says is true and game votes are sourced as a way to convince companies to work with GOG. Things they really need to work on would include:
-addressing spamming. It's in a lot of wish threads. Add Captcha verification or something.
-dealing with duplicated wishes. So many game, movie, and feature wishes are the same or similar, and I haven't ever seen the votes for duplicates merged. You can report duplicates but nothing seems to happen. It's been over a year since I reported some duplicates and nothing has happened. And they've improved it when you enter a wish so you are prompted to check and make sure one like yours doesn't already exist, but they could do more there too.
- adding un-voting, the ability to remove your vote if you voted accidentally for something. Maybe also add down voting so you could vote against something? Although I could see down voting really getting out of hand quickly.
-expanding and improving search and filtering options across the wishlist. Lots of wishes get buried, which I think is part of why there are so many duplicates and similarly worded wishes.
-the ability to edit a comment in one of these wish threads.
what else would make the community wishlist better?
These points are likely already stated, but the things I'd like to see:
1. Improved handling of dupes & spam
2. Ability to see filtered list of things I have voted on
I've been browsing the site for years and have never once seen a duplicate taken off or consolidated, or a spam comment removed. They clearly don't have even a single person working on this. I really hope that they're just going to redo the whole wishlist system entirely and that's the reason they're not bothering to maintain the existing one.
A bare minimum of curation is needed here. Ban spammers and delete their posts at the very least. If you're not willing to do it, at least give us the tools to hide all posts from select users.
Just don't remove old wishes from the previous version of the wishlist please. ^_^
Downvoting is a terrible idea. Do not add it. We should focus on the positive, enthusiasm for any game, rather than any negative hate on a game.
I think the Community Wishlist has been neglected for over a year. As far as I can tell, no one is moderating reported duplicates (or we have no way of knowing it's happening). Some of the popular requested features include: start adding the DUPLICATE/CLOSED status (with moving unique votes to the primary wish), allow users to TRACK THEIR WISHES, support UNVOTE (and possibly downvote), enable more SORTING options, add more FILTERING options (by status, low vote count, time/date...). Please, focus on the community wishlist development a little more, GOG. Cheers :)
Option to remove wishes would be welcome, also there must be a way to merge all those similar (yet not identical wishes, like post1: AoE post2 AoE+RoR p3AoE1+AoE2 etc). Just a little refinement
We get a lot of samey wishes in the wishlist section so I hope GoG can make a better one.
It'd be nice to be able to sort the "Requested" sections by "In Progress, Complete, Incomplete"
Let us "unvote" for something(separate to my request to vote against. this is to remove your vote in cases where you may have clicked by accident)
I want the ability to vote against a wishlist item in addition to voting for it
I want the ability to see requested games/features that I created, so I don't have to hunt for them. Also, if a similar request exists when we try to create a new one tell us.
Lots of good suggestions here! It would also be very helpful of comments could still be edited after posting.
I second this: "It would be awesome to be able to click the "wishes fulfilled from all your votes" text on the Community Wishlist Overview and there you could see the fulfilled wished that you have voted on" - Sentient6
Many entries exist twice or more often. A moderator should unite them and merge (not add up) their votes. Examples: Mech Commander II and Mech Commander 2 Various language and patch proposals
I would like to see the creation date of a wish, which is especially usefull when reporting a duplicate. I also would like to see Items which I voted on and theire status. Proper line breaks would help to make descriptions of wishes more readable, some simple tagging like anchor tag, bold etc. header would also help.
It might be nice to have the ability to be notified if somebody has posted in a wish you posted in (or have the option of quoting, and notifying if somebody quoted/replied to you in that wish). The ability to disable these notifications would probably be an option people would want, too.
If using the current format, the ability to select least number of votes (quite a long list). Also perhaps when setting up a new one a separate bit for the publisher (might help to prevent duplicates from list). Also an effective search function might help with the minimising of duplicates.
Would like a way of people reporting that an item in wishlist has actually been done by GOG. I was just going through the wishlists I noticed a few that have been full filled, nice if there was an option to report as "wish has been granted" or similar so that a Moderator can be notified so they check change the status as completed. ----- Also maybe some sort of a keyword search when people submit a new wish to hopefully avoid duplicates
I also agree that I'd like to see the items on which I've voted and those wishes that have been fulfilled (both overall and only those on which I voted), plus the ability to remove wish votes.
It would be awesome to be able to click the "wishes fulfilled from all your votes" text on the Community Wishlist Overview and there you could see the fulfilled wished that you have voted on.
