QUAKETALLICA What is wrong with internet culture? You see it everywhere online, even in a lot of modern games. This idea that if you don't like other people's speech, then censor everybody. Newsflash, if you don't like what people say, then just go away. Close the browser. Don't engage. Easy solution.
I agree with the guy above. These forums have important info on how to get old games working. We'd be left in the dark to get them properly setup without the forums.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the solution to many of my troubleshooting woes for old games were found within decade old GOG forum posts. Closing the GOG forums would erase all that potential help for anyone trying to get older games running on modern systems.
My suggestion for anyone, including OP, who doesn't like the forums as they exist is:
A: Do the productive thing and advocate for forum reform.
B: Grow thicker skin.

KenryKenjamin I strongly disagree. You do not have to engage in the forums if you do not want to. I typically only check the forums to vote for community wishlist, but it makes no sense to close a way for the community to communicate with the company and each other. You do NOT have to use the forums if you do not like them.
einexile I don't like the forums and I haven't used them in years. Incredibly, no harm has come to me by them remaining open for others to use.

In the general forum, people are difficult to deal with and lack empathy, unfortunately. They don't even understand what preservation is properly and the meaning of the term "DRM free" and the free sharing of the games we buy with our money.
shinobody Currently GOG forums are the best place to find info about running and troubleshooting for these games.
Just implement a community moderation scheme like on Reddit. It's far from perfect but should lower toxicity to managable levels.

SunriderYRX A frankly bizarre request. I use the forums as a knowledge database when I encounter technical problems with my games. The fact that they're old (and thus have years and years of valuable information such as fixes for even fairly obscure titles stored on them) is an asset, not a reason for obsolescence. As for toxicity: "location X contains people who offend me therefore location X should be closed for everyone" is a pretty toxic attitude to have.

What good would come out of closing the forums for people who don't like them? You can just not use the forums -- they're quite out of the way from the main part of the website. If you want to go the extra mile you can something like uBlock to hide the elements on your end
