Atrox

Atrox (2001)

by Joymax Co., Ltd., OK Interactive
Genres:Strategy, Real Time Strategy (RTS)
Themes:Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Atrox is astonishingly similar to Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft. The gameplay, the graphics, units, buildings, even single animations are extremely close to the original. The game is a real-time strategy game where the player controls one of three races (Hominides, Inteliom, Kreators) and tries to destroy all the others on the map. To accomplish this task, he can build a base with many different buildings such as weapon factories, barracks, power plants and so on. He also has to gather resources to build all his stuff, in this game, he needs to get Quark and some liquid crystal. The game features three different campaigns (one for each race) as well as skirmish mode, network and online play (the latter using a server).Show more

'Atrox' was the first game I bought when I was young. It is true that it is inferior to StarCraft. However, the graphics and sound were satisfactory. It would be nice to be able to compete with players from around the world through GOG Galaxy.

What a wonderful Starcraft clone! I originally found this game when browsing abandonware sites a few years ago, grabbing it due to its similar art style and UI to other RTS games I had played in the past. In short: if you can play Starcraft, you can play Atrox. Sure, the AI isnt to the same standard as Starcraft, and the game does have some jank (the abandonware copy I played would repeat "Your forces are under attack" every time a unit was attacked, without delay), but WOW there is a lot to love here! It has three factions, each with their own stories to play through in their single player campaigns. The game also includes the usual expected RTS additions, such as multiplayer and single player skirmish. The art direction is similar to that of Starcraft, at times even expanding upon the formula to add some beautiful animations that you would not have found in the game that it was cloning. As for the gameplay, as previously mentioned, its Starcraft with slightly worse enemy AI. Overall, its a phenomenal RTS that has a comfortable, nostalgic feel to it, while having a somewhat fresh take on a tried-and-true formula. If you like Starcraft and want to scratch that same itch, this will ABSOLUTLY give you the vibes your seeking out! Heres hoping that the game will be brought into the modern age with GOG, hopefully expanding upon the multiplayer offerings to drive the community even further. And if not, at least the abandonware versions currently work on modern systems
I enjoyed it back then. Remembered it a few times over the years but never found it anywhere. Not just a copy of starcraft. It deserves more attention and some face lift :)

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.

Spindizzy Worlds
Spindizzy WorldsOn it's most basic level, Spindizzy Worlds is, like its predecessor, similar to Marble Madness. Controlling GERALD, you must move through the isometrically viewed landscape (largely flick-screen on the ST). There are two skill levels; the harder one features more of the precarious ledges and falls of Spindizzy. Each one takes you to a different matrix of levels, which can be played in different orders and each consist of 10 screens, with a bonus level at the end. You have limited energy, which can be recharged by collecting crystals. Fuel is limited, and is reduced by contact with hazards - generating a replacement GERALD takes time. There are many gates which are opened by running into spaces of the same colour. There are also aliens to avoid, and most movement is along thin slippery ledges with heavily inertia-based controls.

Deep Dungeon II: Yuushi no Monshou
Deep Dungeon II: Yuushi no MonshouYūshi no Monshō is the sequel to Deep Dungeon: Madō Senki. Hundreds of years have passed, the spirit of the long forgotten evil Emperor Ruu has returned. A hero claiming to be the descendant of the previous hero Raru appears in the town of Dorl, and sets on exploring a tower in order to defeat Ruu. The game consists of an eight level tower, four of which are underground, while the others are above ground, the underground levels having a higher difficulty than the latter. The game plays like its predecessor, the player exploring the tower in a first-person view, fighting monsters and improving the hero's skills along the way. When the hero levels up, he gains points to be attributed to his different stats rather than having them distributed automatically. When the hero's level is significantly higher than that of the monsters on the level, random battles are suspended; only the battles triggered by stepping on specific spaces have to be fought. The game has two endings, one being a secret good ending.

Drawful 2
Drawful 2The team behind the hit party games Fibbage, Quiplash, and YOU DON’T KNOW JACK presents Drawful 2, the game of terrible drawings and hilariously wrong answers! You use your phone or tablet to draw weird and funny things like “pitcher of nachos” or “death by trombone.” The other players type in what they think the (probably terrible) drawing is and those become the multiple-choice wrong answers. Then everyone - even an audience of potentially thousands – tries to guess the REAL answer. Drawful 2 is a go-to party game that everyone can play and enjoy!
