Black Dahlia

Black Dahlia (1998)

by Take-Two Interactive, Interplay
Genres:Adventure, Point-and-click
Themes:Horror, Thriller
Game modes:Single player
Story:Black Dahlia is a suspense thriller based loosely on the unsolved California murder of Elizabeth Short, nicknamed "Black Dahlia" for her favoritism towards black clothing. The game is a point-and-click puzzle-solving adventure with live action cutscenes. Full 360 degree horizontal and limited vertical panning allow the player to scan each scene with the mouse. Jim's in-game notebook acts as a journal as it records everything of importance that he has examined. Black Dahlia has over sixty puzzles dispersed over nearly as many locations. They range in difficulty, style and type including jigsaw, manipulation, code breaking, mazes and object based. Well publicized bypass codes can be used to "auto-solve" them without compromising the game, since no score is kept.Show more

this massive game play multiple ending full acting multiple puzzles to overcome great storyline. a must have game over 6 cds emersive gameplay atmosphere covers
This was the first police adventure game I ever played, and it was one of the main reasons I fell in love with detective/puzzle games. I don't know what's better: The live-action cutscenes, with impeccable acting, the very hard puzzles (with a difficulty that only devs in the 90s had the balls to make), or the absolutely phenomenal story, based on three real events: World War II, a serial killer known as the "Torso Killer" and the murder of actress Elizabeth Short. I absolutely loved it, played it several times, and honestly? Even that infernal invitation puzzle, which took me maybe two weeks to fold correctly, what I wouldn't give to be able to play that puzzle again... I'm sure that many other people would fall in love with the game if they had the opportunity to play it.

Black Dahlia is usually remembered for having Dennis Hopper's name on the box, but it's a fantastic noir horror tale set against real world events. Much like Ripper, it does suffer from overly complex puzzles that kills the pacing at times, but if you can get past that (or find the cheat list), Black Dahlia has a memorable tale to tell as you close in one of the most infamous events of the 1940s.
