The original version of this game is worth preserving. There are many things that the remastered changed about the atmosphere of the Xbox/PS3 version of this game which despite the technical limitations was the original intention of the devs. One of the best games of all time will fit right in with GOG.

There's no other game like Dark Souls. When your game inspires many other to come and creates it's own genre called Souls-like, you know it cannot be a bad game. This game will test your patience, it won't hold your hand, you will cry trying to finish it, but once you do, you will appreciate no-handholding game design way more. Immense replay-ability, plethora of play styles, this game is truly a masterpiece of our time.
The true, definitive Dark Souls, (not the "remastered" version), needs to come back with modern fixes. Ever since DS Remastered's release, Bandai Namco delisted the Prepare to Die edition from storefronts, effectively removing any possible way of playing the unaltered original game. The original Dark Souls has far superior visuals and no gameplay alterations. This is Miyazaki's original vision. We need it back for all to experience!!

This is possible my favorite game, the way the world feels and connects is amazing, is slow, hard and is frustrating, but it popularired a new genre and the game is unique. To me it feels like home.

The original PTDE is hard to come by now and an amazing game. Dark souls 1, 2, and 3, but in particular PTDE are one of the few remaining things things keeping me tied to steam, and I'd love to be able to cut these strings.

I am one of those stories that this game brought me out of one of my darker time. I kept on playing at first dying over and over made me hate the game. But I kept on wanting to come back. I would look for strategies on line but they only made die faster in fights. It was when I put my own knowledge, skills, abilities to the front did I start to "get good". The game made me play by its rules, but gave me options to let me play my way. And every boss I defeated felt like an accomplishment, my accomplishment. Dark Souls should be preserved as game that brought a greater challenge to those willing to answer its call. (In memory of Bri-Bri)
Prepare to Die deserves to live. The Remaster is great, but fans of the series would not pass up on the opportunity to buy the original Dark Souls. Same with Demon's Souls. Keep these games alive!!!

I know this game would probably be a long shot but this game is worth preserving. The atmosphere and game play are top tier and while we have the remaster I personally enjoy this version more. This game feels like home.

Truly one of the greatest "Happy accidents" of the last 15 years. Even though the game is unfinished, it's still an amazing game to play even today, with plenty of options for builds and playstyles, brutal but fair dificulty accompanied by a great artstyle that aged like fine wine. As much as I like Dark Souls 2 and 3, they never got close to this one in terms of quality.
Dark Souls isn’t just a game—it’s a legend. Released in 2011, it redefined modern action RPGs with its challenging gameplay, atmospheric world, and deep lore. For many, it sparked a new era of immersive, skill-based gaming. Yet despite its status as a classic, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is not available DRM-free—a true shame for game preservation. Why it belongs on GOG: Masterclass in Game Design: Level design, risk-reward systems, and enemy placement are near perfect. A World That Tells Its Story: Lordran is haunting, beautiful, and full of secrets—built to be explored slowly. Prepare to Die Edition: This version introduced PC players to the world of Dark Souls and deserves preservation. DRM-Free Legacy: GOG is the ideal platform to ensure future generations can experience it without restrictions. Modding Friendly: The community has kept the original PC version alive—DSFix, texture mods, UI overhauls—GOG could help legitimize this effort. Dark Souls is not just difficult—it’s rewarding, thought-provoking, and emotionally powerful. It influenced a generation of games and inspired developers worldwide. GOG can give it the respect it deserves by offering it DRM-free, forever preserved.
