I had this on the original wishlist for years, and there were LOTS more votes there. Caught in licensing hell from Dynamix -- this game did a phenomenal job of letting you play coach/GM without the $$ hassles. It had a variety of player ratings, allowed you to design plays (to add to an extensive library) and required a level of game-planning since you couldn't access ALL the plays in a given half. Players aged, were injured, retired, and you replaced gaps in your roster with both a 6-round draft and free agent draft of released players. Multiple camera angles to view the action, choices to control the players or just watch them execute (my preferred) and it auto-provided highlights from all the games for that week. Summarized season stats with category leaders, etc., which could be exported. For years I had a data base with the stats from my 12-year career league. The first edition only had randomized players as it had no official licenses, but it didn't matter. You felt such ownership in your team and the players. I could go on and on..... It's notoriously difficult to run in DOS-Box but I miss it EVERY football season. Later versions, like Pro added real players for a year or two, but then Dynamix folded and this engine disappeared as Madden took over the landscape.
