What an incredible robot sim. This was the first game where I could design my own machine, set up the controls, and pilot it myself. The sports league campaign mode added a competitive story to it. The customization helped me learn about design thinking for programming and wiring at a young age

This is THE definitive robot design and combat game. I remember playing this back in the early to mid 2000s on our beige family home computer with great fondness. Countless hours went into designing and testing my beloved metal creations. The contentment I'd have when seeing my machines scrapping up against the competition, visibly bashing in enemy robot housings and knocking them out of tournaments as I went for the gold was exceptional. Even decades later, nothing quite matches this. However, there are a few challenges. Modern resolution (and possibly framerate) support is lacking. Moreover, the only way to get the game now is through shareware sites (and that's even with a niche enthusiast community behind it!). This can make the experience for the average person more troublesome and less accessible overall. I recently introduced my nephew to the game, and witnessed just how much kids could appreciate and thoroughly enjoy this game even decades later. His eyes lit up as we built our robot with its big spiked weapons and armor, and saw how it'd chew through the competition. I would only hope that this experience will continue to be compatible with future hardware and easily available to everyone.
