Shadow of Destiny

Shadow of Destiny (2001)

by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle
Themes:Fantasy, Historical, Mystery
Game modes:Single player
Story:Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Destiny in North America) is an adventure game. There are no action elements in the game, and the protagonist has no health bar. Each chapter has a time limit, during which Eike has to find a way to prevent the murderer from killing him. This is mainly achieved by traveling through time to different hours, days, years, and even centuries. Obtaining a crucial item, having a conversation with a specific character, or performing another action in the past will prevent Eike from getting killed. Time-traveling requires energy units, which can be found by exploring the town. If Eike fails to achieve the goal at hand within the allotted time and prevent his murder, the chapter must be restarted. During the course of the game the player will have several choices and opportunities to change the future in various ways. Due to the time-traveling feature, many objectives can be accomplished in non-linear ways, branching the storyline and eventually resulting in eight different endings, six of which can be achieved during the first playthrough, and two others unlocked after having reached the other six.Show more

It's one of those games that's just... So unique and particularly interesting that hey, I'd say without a doubt, that there's no game like Shadow of Memories, specially today. It's weird, strange, even stupid at times, but it's also fascinating and really, really funny.

Love the time mechanic in this, especially for the time. How completing actions in the past changes the future! It gets super weird but interesting, there was a ton of endings too.
When I was in school, a friend lent me this game for the ps2 saying that there was no fighting and that i had to use my wits to go ahead. I was used to only RPGs and fighting games, so this was quite the experience. It's one of a kind game, where your choices really change a lot in the game. There is more than a way to solve chapters. There isn't a morale system, but the games shows you the consequences of your actions and even if you can travel in time, there are things you cannot change.

I think I hired this game from the video shop for the PS2 once a very long time ago and played through it over a few days, but then over the years I completely forgot it existed or that I ever played it until a few days ago I came across it again and reconnected with the distant dreamlike memory of this unusual game that consumed my life for a few days.

Never forget, buying this game for around $20 USD at a Mall for the PC, as soon as it hit this price. One of my favorite adventure games and one of the most underrated of all time, IMHO. Without giving away too much here: you are killed and are brought back to life & brough backwards in time, all to try and solve your murder & unmask the murderer. Choices matter & the game has numerous endings - but this game's built in such a way to get the most understanding out of the entire game is to try & earn every single solitary ending b/c of what it's trying to do and say here. There's also a time mechanic & you have you to do whatever the task is/tasks are and make decisions in a certain amount of time, too. This is also an early type of cinematic-style CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) game before TellTale with Jurassic Park & The Walking Dead Seasons and also Quantic Dream's Fahrenheit. Must play stuff.
This is simply an unforgettable game and one of the most unique ones I've ever seen. It's the kind of game that even if you lose the details over time, you can't get it out of your head. randomly think about it all the time. I have the discs for this game but haven't been able to get them to work with modern OSs. There is an interesting time mechanic, branching storylines with multiple endings, and your choices REALLY matter. It gets a little weird and even to this day feels somewhat like a fever dream to me.

Buzz!: Quiz World
Buzz!: Quiz WorldBuzz!: Quizz World is the ninth game in the Buzz! series of quiz games. It allows users to use question packs purchased for previous Buzz! games as well as supporting user created content and online play. Unlike the previous PSP Buzz!, Buzz: Quiz World (PSP) supports DLC. As with all previous Buzz games the game is available in a game only (Solus) version or in a bundle which includes 4 wireless Buzz! Buzzers and a USB dongle for wireless connectivity (each dongle can connect 4 buzzers to the PlayStation 3). Quiz World features a mix of old and new round types. For example, one new round hides the answers and then slowly reveals them. A new feature in Quiz World is player profiling and the host Buzz addressing the player by name, informing them of their abilities and record as a player. Buzz!: Quiz World also supported PlayStation Home rewards that are rewarded by winning the prize after a round of Buzz!: Quiz World. It supports full game launching for PlayStation Home as well. In late-March 2010, Sony and Relentless released a patch for Buzz!: Quiz World that added a feature to allow players to post to Facebook from within the game. According to the companies involved, this made the game the first in the world to offer such functionality. The patched Facebook features allow players to post details of the game session just played, including the in-game names of those who took part, and who won.

Dinosaur Discovery
Dinosaur DiscoveryDinosaur Discovery is an educational game developed for schools. Teachers use the game in conjunction with teaching materials to provide an intertwined course based on English, Maths, Science, Drama and Art. Based on the situations encountered in the game, students can perform tasks in the classroom based on the game's backstory. The players start the game in a shed, where they must decide which tools to take with them to use in the game environment, and which to leave behind (although they can return to the shed at any time and exchange them). As they explore the world, they will encounter situations based on basic English (such as word puzzles), compass reading, telling the time and learning to read a map's scale. Clues are given to them through the game's museum and an old hermit, who tells them of an old explorer who was trying to hatch dinosaurs on a far-off isolated island. The game also featured an explorer's journal for students to read. This journal provides insight into the professor's journey throughout the game's various environments. It also talks of his meeting with the hermit, and how he succumbs to illness. The final entry is in different handwriting from the rest of the journal, and is by the hermit, who writes that the professor died the previous night and that he has buried him in the desert.

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy VIIIFinal Fantasy VIII is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. The gameplay makes a departure from many series standards. While it still uses the Active Time Battle system, it deviates from the series' traditional means of boosting a character's power via leveling, although levels are not completely abandoned as they were in Final Fantasy II. In addition, it does not have a Magic Point-based system for spell-casting. Instead, magic is collected, drawn, and created from items, and is used to power up the characters via the junction system.
