Klingon Academy was the first videogame that I followed the development of closely. I was "Thiago Made in Brasil" in the old Interplay forums, and I'm not exagerating when I say that that experience in many ways influenced the game developer I am today. The developers, especially the project lead, Ron Hodge, where very transparent regarding the ins and outs of that (very troublesome) development, and I learned a lot from that. Also, it was my first experience being part of an international virtual community. To this day, Klingon Academy is a game near and dear to my heart. Its predecessor, Starfleet Academy, is already available at GOG.com, so I find it weird that this game isn't - but maybe this at least means there's hope? To all my fellow Klingon Academy students still out there: qapla'!
My first Star Trek game that focus purely on ship to ship combat. The emersion in commanding and controlling a powerful warship kept me playing when I was a kid. There is even an instant action mode where you can even play ships from other factions as well as the Klingons. The challenge and fun to me were the right balance that every engagement was satisfying. The story shown through FMV with original Star Trek actors also gave the weight and feel you are a Klingon warrior moving through the ranks. The original game came on multiple CD's that you had to change as you progressed through it. A chance to play it again without this media changing would be great for modern systems.

This game still feels the most like playing a Star Trek starship battle. The Star Trek Bridge games have some nice, immersive elements, but also make you feel less in control. When I want to have a more granular experience, the Academy games, particularly Klingon Academy, just have more for me to chew on.

This is a very rare gem. One of the best Star Trek games ever. Christopher Plummer reprising his role as General Chang for the cinematics alone is worth it. Interplay made best use of the license back in 2000. Graphics back then were astonishing, gameplay was phenomenal, damage models astounding - those hits really hurt, when you saw your saucer section disintegrate. Despite its complexities controls were well thought through - you felt in full control of everything happening on your bridge. Klingon Academy's successor "Bridge Commander" (2002) felt like a step back in graphics as well as controls. Not to mention the diversity of ships available, even more so with the huge modding community at the time - Enterprise D, Voyager, Deep Space 9, even Babylon 5 - those modders delivered hours of joy playing and experiencing those iconic ships / station first hand and in combat. A tweaked return on GOG is way overdue. Here's to hoping that somewhere on some lonley hard drive those mods still exist and will be included.
I adore this game so much. Especially the feature where you could create battle scenarios. Being able to take on the Reliant as the Enterprise, or vice versa, having full-on Klingon v Federation battles, or with Romulans. And that Gameplay was fantastic. It's actual battle damage during battles was and still one of the best things I've ever seen and I've seen few games ever really capture that same level of detail.
I had to get this game after completing my first big computer game - Star Trek Starfleet Academy. So many hours spent going through the campaign over and over due to the fun story line with live action movies in-between. The quick battle mode was amazing and trying different scenarios between the diffferent factions kept me coming back. Having difficulty defeating a specific class of ship in the campaign? Try it out in the quick battle mode to see what areas to target first or what environment its best to engage it in. Also, it's great to try out the new faction that was made just for this game - Carriers!

I played this game for hours and hours exploring all the maps when I young. I specifically remember my favorite part being catapulting enemies out of the shuttle bay. :)

I had a demo of this game way back when I had a PC that could barely run it, now I have a PC that is too powerful for it but it's not available to buy anywhere. It's a really excellent game with live action cutscenes starring Star Trek fan favourite actors Christopher Plummer and David Warner reprising their roles as Chang & Gorkon from Star Trek 6. "You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon."

Klingon Academy was well ahead of its time, from being able to board and take control of enemy ships and sabotaging key ship systems, you could fly into the corona of a sun and the radiation would deplete your shields and kill your crew, to the black holes that would suck you ship in! The game also allowed you to transfer power to different systems such as direct power to aft shields, no other game has given this level of experience, the only one that comes close is Bridge Commander but even that wasn't as good. The variety of ships from different races made the game so fun, the instant combat mode let you play out different scenarios with your favorite ships, this game made my teens so much fun, i want to experience this once more. Christopher Plummer in the ingame videos was so great to explore the character more, andthe main story was perfect.
