Story:The Typing of the Dead is an arcade game that was developed by WOW Entertainment and published by Sega for the NAOMI hardware. The game was released in Japanese arcades in 1999 and was ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2001 by Smilebit. A Windows version was released in 2000 and a PlayStation 2 port followed in 2004. The Typing of the Dead is a modification of Sega's 1998 light gun arcade game The House of the Dead 2 in which the gun is replaced by a computer keyboard. The player takes the role of a secret agent in a zombie-infested Venice and must quickly type letters, words and phrases in order to kill fast-advancing enemies.Show more

Not only is it based off one of the greatest lightgun games ever made, it's also a genuinely excellent typing tutor. On the technical side there's little needed to modernise it, it's a remarkably well-behaved game. It just runs.
This game was how I started to learn to type as a teenager and continued til I got to about 93 wpm. I spent hours and hours trying to get farther and faster. Its fun, educational, and highly addicting so it ends up being a very motivational way to dive into improving your vocabulary and typing skills. I played it on dreamcast for years and really wish there was an easier way to get the game nowadays. Any fan of House of the Dead 2 will love this game. I even use it to teach my kids to type.

I remember playing this game as a teen. I had so many fun memories of my friends to play and laugh at the dialogue and the words that you had to type. It made me actually learn the typing and improve my typing speed. Still haven't beaten later stages. Only problem was that the key placements only supported the English -type. It would be awesome to get proper Nordic (Norway, Sweden and Finland) -keybord support too.

"House of the Dead" was one of those arcade games that I would play as soon as I entered an arcade center. Around the time I started started using a computer was when I discovered this game. While I didn't get to play this version of the game often because of the Dreamcast users being scared where I lived, I did my best to practice my typing skills every time I had the option to play this. It a shame that there wasn't a PC or some kind of later console port for this game. In my opinion, when it comes to practicing a new skill or physical exercises, who says you can't have any fun doing so?
This would be a day 1 purchase for me for sure. The voice acting, graphics, atmosphere and gameplay. Everything about it is just fantastic. By the way, if this gets a re-release on GOG, will the characters have PCs on their backs instead of Dreamcast consoles?
Memories of The Typing of the Dead (2000) This was my first introduction to the idea that typing could be fun, not just educational. The game reworked House of the Dead 2 into a chaotic zombie-slaying typing simulator. I remember the absurdity of it all—characters wearing SEGA Dreamcast backpacks with keyboards strapped to their chests—while trying to type phrases like “buttery toast” or “nuclear fusion” fast enough to survive. It was simple, goofy, and charming. The arcade roots, campy voice acting, and fast-paced word prompts made it the kind of game that turned typing class into something worth looking forward to. There was a bizarre magic to its low-budget presentation that made it unforgettable.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Resident Evil Code: VeronicaResident Evil Code: Veronica is the fourth video game in Capcom's Resident Evil survival horror series. The game continues the survival horror gameplay of its predecessors: the protagonist explores the surroundings, fighting monsters and solving puzzles. However, it is the first game in the series to do away with pre-rendered backgrounds using a fully polygonal 3D engine instead, which allows for features such as real-time lighting and camera movement. Still, such movements are only used sparingly, and the use of perspective is mostly unchanged from earlier installments: the camera automatically switches to different static angles showing protagonists, monsters and rooms from different spooky viewpoints.

Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica
Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: VeronicaResident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica is a first-person shooter video game and the second installment in the Gun Survivor series. As in most lightgun games, the objective is to make it through an environment while shooting enemies. It is somewhat less typical in that you have full roaming control over your character rather than being stuck on rails. More unusually, a timer begins as you enter each area. If the timer runs out before you leave, Nemesis will appear and chase you.
