I first borrowed Vandal Hearts II from a friend in 1999/2000 on PS1. I was blown away by its mature, bloodfilled story; a rarity for JRPGs at the time, let alone a turn-based strategy JRPG. The game literally begins with a town being massacred and pillaged in bloody, shocking 2D pixel sprite detail. Political and religious drama, backstabbings, and a lot of taboo topics are featured in the game's plot. All thanks to a masterful localization by Nob Ogasawara who also did Pokemon Red/Blue (and many more), Terranigma, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. The game's strategic combat was fun if not tricky; because your character and the enemy AI both act at the same time, you have to "second guess" your opponent and figure out what their action will be to gain the upper hand. Think they're going to hit your weakest character from behind? Move the unit behind their anticipated spot and swing into that tile and you'll gain the upper hand. And I haven't even mentioned the MUSIC! It's honestly one of the best and most underrated PS1-era soundtracks of all time; it has a lot of orchestral/classical influence and is composer Hiroshi Tamawari's magnum opus. Lots of great melodies and variety and a treat to your ears. Given Konami's push to bring back Suikoden with the remaster of I & II, they really need to do Vandal Hearts I & II, next! Honestly can't believe VHI and II have never been re-released, ever (not even as a PSone Classic on PS3/PSP/Vita).

Another amazing tactics classic from ps1 era, and the sequel to Vandal Hearts 1. I think this one improves on the game much more and brings a new feel to the world.

My childhood friends gifted me this game and i was intrigued from the get-go due to its brutal Intro and combat afterwards, in time, i've grown to appreciate more and more its own take on Tactics styled gameplay, but with a twist, the music is great, the story is also great, i think VH2 its a severely underrated gem that deserves to be brought back from the brink, and be played by RPG fans that missed out on this.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Lufia II: Rise of the SinistralsLufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals serves as a prequel to Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, unfolding its events ninety-nine years before. The narrative delves into the origins of the series' antagonists, the Sinistrals, a group of super-humans. Players take on the role of the ancestor of Maxim, the protagonist from the first game, as he embarks on a quest after encountering Iris, a mysterious woman. Maxim seeks other heroes to join forces in preventing the Sinistrals from wreaking havoc and destroying the world. Like its predecessor, Rise of the Sinistrals follows the Japanese-style turn-based RPG format with an infusion of puzzle elements. The game incorporates intricate puzzles into its dungeon designs, requiring players to use various items and accessories for solving. Additionally, it introduces the "Capsule Monsters" system, allowing summoned monsters to participate in battles. These creatures evolve through the consumption of weapons, armour, or special fruits. Unlike the first game, dungeons in Rise of the Sinistrals lack random battles, with enemies visibly moving on-screen.

The Lost Vikings
The Lost VikingsThe Lost Vikings is a puzzle-platform video game developed by Silicon & Synapse (now Blizzard Entertainment) and published by Interplay. The game features infinite opportunities of retries in case the player loses one of the Vikings. In 2015, The Lost Vikings were added as a playable hero in Heroes of the Storm, allowing players to control the three Vikings as individual units, making a unique departure from the typical heroes available. Character abilities: All three Vikings (Erik, Baleog and Olaf) have three health points which they can lose by getting hurt by enemies or by falling from great heights, and the ability to carry and use items, mainly keys, bombs, and food (which restore health points). Each of the Vikings has a unique set of abilities: Erik can run faster than the other two, can jump, and can bash through some walls (and enemies) with his helmet. Baleog can kill enemies with his sword, or from a distance with his bow (and a "life-time supply of arrows"). The bow can also be used to hit switches from a distance. Olaf can block enemies and their projectiles with his shield, and use his shield as a hang glider. Olaf's shield can also be used as a stepping stone for Erik to enable him to reach higher ground, which would not be possible without the shield.
