Story:Separation Anxiety is a side scrolling beat'em up game, featuring characters and stories taken from the Spiderman comics. The story is loosely based on a mini series of comics about Venom. In this game, the player(s) gets to choose between controlling Spider-Man, or his on and off again foe Venom. As Spiderman you must stop the life foundation who have removed five symbiotes from Venom. They plan to bond them with their soldiers, creating a dangerous army. Venom recovering from his wounds also realises he must destroy them.
The game lets you punch, kick, swing and do combos throughout streets, the woods and underground complexes towards your goal. Throughout the game the player can pick up superhero icons. Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety is a follow up to Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage. Unlike the previous Spider-Man game, this is actually based on a different comic story. A little weird they still ran with the game knowing this. In all aspects it's not as great as the previous game. There's a few things it has over the original though. For starters, you can start the game as Venom. Also there's a password system. There's also an infinite lives code. Like Maximum Carnage, the main villain group you'll face a lot. They might've done that a little too much here. There's some good songs with not great sound effects. The game simply felt a bit rushed out. Almost like they lacked inspiration or simply tired of making Spider-Man games. They also made Spider-Man and The X-Men in Arcade's Revenge. Some of the enemies just doesn't work for an beat em up game either. I did like some of the assist heroes you'll get. Which might've been the best aspect of this game. If you played both games side by side it's no contest which one wins. Especially the first few levels in both games are somewhat similar. In all honestly, it's not a bad licensed beat em up game. It's somewhat better than Batman Forever the more famous console game. It's just nothing special that's fun for a little while. Even if you play co-op with an friend or family member. Don't expect to go through the entire game. I could even argue how The Incredible Hulk game on the same platforms is better.
