Story:Wangan Midnight: R is a racing game based on the Wangan Midnight manga. For Arcade it is a revised and updated version of Wangan Midnight while for the PS2 it is the first version and the first home console release in the series as well.
The PS2 release has an AC Scenario mode (original Arcade Scenario mode), Mission mode, Time Attack mode and an i.Link Battle mode (local multiplayer) similar to the Versus mode used for the two units of the arcade cabinet. There is also a Replay Theater where replays of races can be viewed. The mission mode has a number of challenges against one or more opponents divided over eleven series (series one to ten and then Tune as the final one). Featuring over a dozen customizable vehicles designed with unique handling characteristics, players will race their whip through 20 tracks in eight different terrain arenas. With an assortment of power-ups available, including projectile weapons, mines, ranged weapons, turbo boosts, shields, and smart bombs, players should have the means necessary to ensure they're the first to cross the finish line.
The game supports both offline and online multiplayer. Offline multiplayer is the typical two-player split-screen multiplayer. Online multiplayer is playable with up to five other players. The player races off — despite Samantha's warnings — only to be ambushed by a mysterious driver in a rage that totals his Skyline. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2The Need for Speed series returns, this time reverting back to the 'chase' arcade experience instead of a racing simulation. Top speed racing is the name of the game, where you must outchase not just the opposing drivers, but the cops.
Choose from a selection of today's (and yesterday's) top sports cars, including the Ferrari F50, Porsche 911 and a range from the likes of Ford, Corvette, BMW, Lotus, Mercedes, Aston Martin, the McLaren F1 and a lot more.
The competitive race mode allows you to take on other drivers and beat them to the line. A selection of tracks allows you to not only dodge incoming traffic, but perform deadly jumps and stunts to receive points. These points, combined with the points recieved from your finishing position, can unlock new cars and tracks.
The Hot Pursuit mode combines all the major elements of the competitive mode with the chance to out run the cops. They will throw everything at you to try and stop you, including running you off the road, setting up road blocks and unleashing an attack helicopter equiped with missiles. Three busts by the cops ends the race.Action
