Fun Mortal Kombast-esque fighting game that has amazing finishers and fun fighters across different times and cultures. While mostly forgotten by most fighting game fans, it was very Midway-like, and looked better than Mortal Kombat 4 at the time.
Why War Gods Needs to Be on GOG — The Most Underrated Fighting Game Ever War Gods, released by Midway in 1996, may not have reached the same legendary status as Mortal Kombat, but it deserves a second chance — especially on GOG, where cult classics and hidden gems find new life. As one of the earliest 3D fighting games from the arcade era, War Gods brought a unique blend of ancient mythology, sci-fi, and brutal combat that set it apart from the pack. It’s long overdue for rediscovery. What made War Gods stand out was its bold use of "Digital Skin" technology — an early technique for creating digitized 3D characters that added realism to the game’s diverse cast. Each fighter represented a powerful deity or warrior from different cultures and eras, including a cybernetic samurai, a voodoo priestess, and a four-armed alien god. The designs were striking, and the lore hinted at a rich, fantastical world. The gameplay was fast, fluid, and reminiscent of Mortal Kombat — complete with brutal finishers and a dark, arcade tone. While it had a steep learning curve and lacked polish compared to later fighters, War Gods had heart, creativity, and raw fun. For fans of retro fighters, it was a bold experiment that deserves more credit than it received. Releasing War Gods on GOG would preserve this underappreciated title and introduce it to a new generation of players. With modern controller support and a few quality-of-life tweaks, it could finally earn the respect it missed out on in the 90s.
In all honestly it did make up a rather unexpected era of similar MK games from Midway. All of that begin with War Gods that came the closest to Mortal Kombat series in the cosmic epic way. Don't expect this to be better than Mortal Kombat 4. At the same time I do think some could find enjoyment in this game. The controls are similar enough to MK series at that time. The bosses are the hidden characters was a nice surprise. I did like some of the finishers. I also did like some of the characters as well. As a kid in the late 90s I loved among finishing my opponents. I uppercut em which notably differs in height with the stages. You would be amaze how high you can punch someone in this game. We even had an actress that worked on an MK game in this as Vallah. You would be surprise a lot of people still remembers this game after all these years.

Astrosmash
AstrosmashIn Astrosmash you control a laser canon at the bottom of the screen; your goal is to earn as many points as possible by destroying the various incoming meteors, bombs, and other objects. Points are earned for destroying objects, while points are lost for letting them get past you. Meteors are the most common item you need to defend yourself against. They come in various sizes and colors, and some even split into two smaller meteors when shot. Mixed in with the meteors are white spinning bombs. While letting a meteor get past you will only lower your score, you have to shoot the spinners. If one gets past, you will lose a life. On the more difficult levels, ufo's and guided missiles will also appear occasionally and attempt to destroy your canon.

ZX Spectrum Pac-Man Arcade
ZX Spectrum Pac-Man ArcadeThis is a faithful conversion of the original Pac-Man arcade for the ZX Spectrum 48K. Everything was recreated with as much detail as possible through hours of reading of multiple Pac-Man guides and playing the original game. Being a conversion, some concessions were made to work around the limitations of the 48K but the overall result is still pretty close. The game runs at a silky smooth 50fps with game sound and no tearing or flickering. All the level progression, logic, rules and timings are implemented exactly like the arcade. All the intermissions are included at the end of the right levels. All the ghost logic was replicated exactly as the original. A fix has been made to Inky's logic which had a bug in the original. Game does not "crash" like the original arcade at the end of level 256. It simply ends with a Game Over. It also supports a 2 Players game like the arcade.
