Hello everyone,

I would like to share with you the facebook page "Alaundo's prophecy unleashed" (I can't yet add links...) . I think many people are not really satisfied with the "enhanced" editions of Baldur's Gate, and waited for a true remake of this saga with modern gaming tech, I decided to step up and do this page to express interest for a true revival of Baldur's Gate. For legal reasons, a fan made remake is not a viable option, but I believe that with enough likes one day this cause will have visibility and from there I believe there will be more horizons.
As for my humble contribution, I am coding scripts in my free time for enabling more realistic systems in video games. If you do games in Unity, please check the bot vision system "Beholder vision system for unity 5" posted on the assets and asset store forum in Unity forums, it is in early stages and it is still basic but it is free and I intend to improve it continuously. What I ask in exchange, and it is not mandatory, is to like and/or share the cause above.

I hope you are interested and if you want to give me a hand in suporting the cause I would be happy to talk with you about it.

Arkanis Gath, techpriest of Baldur

I took a look at your FB page and I'm not really sure what you're trying to achieve. I believe the Enhanced Editions -- and no, I don't like them either -- have been quite successful at making the series accessible to new players, what with them being available on multiple platforms (including handheld), supporting higher resolutions, and so on. I also believe that a significant part of the "older" fan-base do actually like them, or at least don't care enough about the differences to be bothered by them, and the people who don't like them simply avoid them and play the originals, which still run fine on modern systems thanks to this very site.

In short, I just don't think a "true" remake is a realistic expectation, regardless of how many Facebook likes you might drum up. Also, I think you're wrong about a fan remake not being viable because, well, this exists: Baldur's Gate Reloaded.

Thanks for your comment!

Baldur's Gate Reloaded is a mod and was very likely authorized at the condition to be as such. Though I found that mod very inspiring, as a mod it was limited in terms of gameplay in general and also rendering. I am talking about a remake on a game engine with more freedom in gameplay and graphics settings.
Unfortunately, many of these intiatives are just shut down by the license owners, for exemple the remake project of chrono trigger, for diverse reasons...but there was often a popularity cost.
The idea of making very visible the interest of the fans is to higher up and clarify that popularity cost, so that shutting down a request for a fan made remake becomes more costly than a remake that may eat up a bit on the sales of, say, a baldur's gate 1.5 with crappy infinity engine graphics in 2016...

Well, anyway that is the idea I got for now and where I want to come at with this social networks strategy. I think many here would like to play Baldur's Gate with modern game engine (the best ones are free now) graphics and many many more ramifications in scenarios, dialogues, ect. Who knows, this may work :-) so if you have any idea on how to better proceed I would be glad to know about it.
I enjoy Baldur's Gate/Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn just the way it is.

I don't want to play a re-make of any of these games.
Also, better dialogs, quest scripting and all that is achievable through mere modding. Only very specific stuff requires engine changes. In GemRB we do extend original functionality as needed or requested, but it seems OP is focused on newer graphics? Can't say I find the original particularly lacking in that area.
No thanks. Lets leave the classics alone.
