Hey everyone.

I'm a noob here, trying to find a game I knew years ago.

I came to GOG because I am sure that in the past I could find old dos games here. Not sure if it is still so, or not. Whichever way, please advise/assist if you are able?

Obviously I don't know the name of the game.
It was a typical point-and-click as far as I recall.
I did not play a lot of it, but loved what I did play - maybe only about 2 hour's worth at most.

Screen starts black, you either hear a scream, or the text says "you hear someone screaming", and then you realize it is you screaming. You open your eyes and are in locked room. You start searching for clues. You appear to be in a building (possibly a castle) that is surrounded by a moat - you find this out when you climb through the window and stand on the ledge, looking down.

Obviously you can't open the door yet, and when you look at the medical chart at the foot of your bed, it says something about an upcoming lobotomy.

I remember playing the game at a friends house roughly in 1990/1991. I know this specifically, because it was at a braai (international folks may call it a BBQ - in South Africa it's called a braai) where my wife and I met - we were married in 1992. We knew each other a little more than a year before we got married, and this places that event either late 1990 or early 1991. Thus, the game was released by the absolute latest in 1991 (although, thirty years ago - in South Africa, we would not get stuff at release, we would typically get it a year or three later....lol.

Back to the point: the game must've been released in about 1988 - 1990.

It could not have been Sanitarium, as that seems to have been released only in the late '90's.

Thus, if anyone has any idea, please make suggestions. I have searched often, over many years, but have never been able to find the game.

Thanks all
Have a great day

That reminds me of a game called Countdown.

It doesn't sound familiar to me, but if you are sure about those years, then it's easier to try to "brute force" it from game databases.

I would suggest checking these first, if it's not listed there, then it's probably not a very well known release.

Just taking a wild guess here, based on the thematic description, could it be Personal Nightmare?

It sounds like this could be Countdown, a point and click adventure released by Access Software in 1990.

There is a gameplay video on YouTube, and the game indeed starts by hearing screaming and waking up in a mental hospital, and later the protagonist must escape the room onto a window ledge.

If it's none of the ones mentioned you could try asking here:

To me it sounds a bit like Curse of Enchantia, but some things don't fit.

There being a chance you might have forgotten about this question, and seeing this thread might get burried before seen again, here's a friendly reminder.
