This is the kind of amateur bullshit that makes me want to move away from GOG (see attachment). The library is janky, the forum is janky. This is a subsidiary of a multi billion dollar corporation. There is ZERO reason it should look on par with Itch.io. While I don't expect Steam, I do expect better than this. It has gotten worse throughout the years.

It seems every month or so there is an issue with items added or taken from the library, or not added to the proper accounts. Or advertised features of the social aspect (i.e. Profiles) stop working properly. Or you can't get up-to-date game files unless you use the optional client.

DRM added to items in nearly decade old games, Ever shifting the definition of the promise of the one thing that keeps me buying here: DRM free.

I don't know if GOG just doesn't get any money from their parent company's other divisions, or what, but I'm pretty close to saying DRM-free isn't worth the hassle of fucking around with this janky broken mess anymore. I love the idea of my games being protected, but this site and store are eroding my confidence that they can competently deliver anymore.

Staff response.

I'm still hopeful they'll get around to fixing the numbers in the user menu and achievements no longer appearing on the profile page (except the three in the Recent Achievements box). Apparently Dev0_NZ figured out the problem on January 5th but still hasn't received a reply.

This is one of the things that doesn't inspire confidence. Even the smallest, simplest issues either take months to fix or never get fixed at all. For example, most wishlist filters are broken and have been even before I signed up.

Yeah. It's not one thing in a vaccuum. It's everything as a whole. If it was one or two of these issues, I'd say "things happen." But these cracks started to appear 7 or 8 years ago when The Witcher 3 boosted their customer count by a large amount with no infrastructure to support it. It's continued to get worse since then. It seems like they never installed the infratructure of a large company and are still operating like it's 2010 and they have 2,500 customers.

Maybe their whole staff is busy introducing DRM to games, and makes up silly excuses about what is the new definition of DRM Free.

Looks like it got cleaned up at least. The spam I mean. The other thing is still an issue...
It really feels like a company being run people whose arrogance outstrips their ability. It's like they started taking on the wrong type of employees, driving off core good ones and are now left with a majority that have no legitimate coding skills or basic ideas on how to carry, let alone grow the business. Would go a way to explaining why they seem so utterly detached from their own user base more often than not. GOG never used to feel like this.

I really wish I could be a fly on the wall in the GOG offices to see exactly what the hell is happening with the site.

I don't think GOG gets money from the other divisions. I believe the third quarter they made about $10 mil USD and made $450k profit. Part of me would like to see that money go to securing new AAA games, but maybe it needs to be spent on extra help to make a brand new site. shrug

I don't want to assume anything or come across as insensitive, but I wonder if Polish (or European in general) culture plays some kind of a role in this. There does seem to be a greater emphasis on family life and time off compared to the USA, which I think is a good thing. There's also the continual matter of GOG staff having to be located in Poland (instead of allowing remote work), presumably so they can pay less.
Poland requirement is probably to keep legal problems to a minimum.
