Bang bang, you blast me down.

Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein - hard to imagine how FPSs would look today without these bad boys paving the way. Whether it's rocket-jumping in front of your friends' face or strafing to avoid making eye contact with a particularly nasty demon, everybody's fond memories are bound to include an awesome bit from the gory arenas of these celebrated id classics.

Now is the best time to brush up on your face-blasting skills - after all, you never know when you'll be called back into action...

The Bethesda shooter sale will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.

Bodgeit: Oh, yes they are. Taken from the store description.

The highly anticipated sequel to DOOM, this GOG release brings not only DOOM II, but the expansions, “Master Levels of DOOM” and “Final DOOM”.

SpiderFighter: They really should put the expacks up higher on the page instead of buried in the descriptions, particularly since they're sold separately elsewhere. I would have passed completely by Quake, were it not for the fact that someone in here posted that the two expacks (Scourge of Armagon” and “Dissolution of Eternity") were included.
Couldn't agree more, will be buying Quake on payday Friday this week. I already have it on Steam, but I am moving away from it & am slowly getting all the games on GoG, that I have on Steam, subject to what they have in the catalogue here.

I have to disagree.

Morrowind was THE game that made the Elder Scrolls series as popular as it is nowadays. Of course there were people who didn't like it but many people i know loved it despite it's flaws and rough edges.

And many people still like it today, otherwise there wouldn't be this:

;)
Talking about shooters i only have return to castle wolfenstein and i am somehow enjoying this game even though i am at the cobra part and i usually didn't like FPS unless they were something special. Not special is kinda like the call of duty series after 2 i think.Prey in 2006 was something special i loved to play.

ped7g: IMO Gothic 2 is all time classic... morrowind is "bland meh". (I played morrowind for 7 days before uninstalling it, G2 played through twice) ... but even if it would be comparable to G2 (IMO no, not even close), saying that Morrowind is somehow relatively close to DOOM or Quake1 ... that's plain ridiculous. Those were THE games when they came out, while Morrowind was just another scrolls chapter, and not even as revolutionary as Daggerfall was to Arena, actually there were lot of people claiming Daggerfall was better (I can't comment on that, didn't play Daggerfall yet).
I have all the Gothic Series and all the Elder Scrolls series. I still play all the Scrolls games and never finished any Gothics. I'm not silly enough to uninstall any game I've bought though and the fact that you would do such a stupid thing proves that there is something wrong with your thought processes and makes your opinion difficult to trust.

Guitarminator: You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how ill informed and quite simply bad an opinion it is.
You mostly compare apples to oranges until you get to the painfully mediocre games that are the Gothic series and that's being generous.
Gothic 2 better than Morrowind!?
I can't take you seriously if you actually believe that.

Kristian: I have no opinion about this all, but I do note that he mentioned a bunch of other games than Gothic 2 and that he had a list of fairly specific gripes with Morrowind that you did not address at all. As an outside observer it would be interesting to hear your(and others) opinion about those gripes and their (lack of?) validity and/or relevance.
What are you, some sort of voyer who likes to watch others battle in forums? xD
"Apples to oranges" addresses all the other games and "Ill informed" adresses the specific gripes.
I have no desire to debate some hipster wannabe who's sole purpose is to bash something popular simply because it's popular. It's perfectly fine to like unpopular games. It's not okay to bash popular ones to impress others or just to start a fight.
There's a reason the next Elder Scrolls game is always eagerly anticipated and there is no Gothic game past 3.

Tarhiel: ...it was first truly open world RPG ( first two Gothics were not...
I agree with what you say, exception made for this point. I believe Gothic 1 and 2 were as open world as they could be (yes, some dungeons in the first or passing between Khorinis and the Valley of Mines in the second required a loading screen, yet ALL of Morrowind's dungeons were separate maps, so I'd rather say that Gothic was more open that Morrowind).
I speak like a man who played hundreds of hours on both series, and while Morrowind is the only Bethesda developed game I have ever liked, imo it has not aged well. I say that rarely, and mostly call BS when I hear the same words referring to almost every videogame (heck, I think that even the original Wasteland still holds up well past the graphics); still, I believe that while once what Morrowind had to offer was awesome for its new and shiny sheer immensity, now scratching under the surface reveals a relatively empty core. On the other hand, the Gothic series has a much more rewarding exploration and an unparalleled map design, and imo it can still hit with the same force it had at launch.

Also, a side note: Bethesda's writers are objectively awful. Don't get me wrong, Morrowind had plenty of great ideas for the main plot and the guilds subplots (ideas that they themselves have not been able to replicate in quality with TES 4-5 or Fallout), yet... their simplistic and shallow dialogues and texts seem written by a 12 year old boy.

All I wrote before is just my opinon, so please, notorious Bethesda's fanboys, don't lynch me. Let's have peace even if I don't like your favourite games, yes?

Well, I have problem with that point too, but different one. I wonder where that "first" is coming from, there were many open world RPGs before Morrowind, not even counting many MUDs (MMO RPG games through text terminal), but just only graphical RPGs for home computers, for example some of Ultimas can easily count as open world.

And also I don't get that comment about Morrowing making scrolls more known, I mean all players did knew the Arena already, we played pretty much everything what came out, always some friend had it and shown the game to others.

About uninstalling game, that was the way how to free space on disk for other things, back then just windows 2000 after few patches could eat lot of disk, so 2-3 more new games, and it was over (if you weren't lucky enough to have 1GB HDD).
won't read through the whole 5 pages but...

this is like calling The Return of the Jedi "a timeless Disney classic"

and if that just wasn't enough..."rocket-jumping" bethesda? it's pretty much an insult to gaming history XD

then again, of course, I'm just ranting out of boredom, and you probably did that just for legal reasons =P
(as shown in the actual post text where it states they're "id classics")

and yes, Quake 3 Arena, as the name implies, is all about getting into an arena and tear the s**t out of each other, but it's no different than UT in that, it does have a progression of some sorts when you play it single player, as you go along, you get new maps, models, and bots/enemies as well as an ever increasing level of difficulty
I must say I am tempted by Netpack I: Extremities in the Quake 2 pack.

I saw the disc/box when I was a kid and I wondered about it for years
Um... Am I missing something? When did Doom 3 and Quake 4 get added?

(and yes, I bought them as soon as I saw them)

Wunderbar! Fantastico! Excellent!
I just need to have those two new added games (already own all the others)!

Alas, I can currently afford only one of them. What would you suggest, should I get Doom 3 or Quake 4?

I have unanimously decided I will let you do the choosing :)

I'd recommend Doom 3 but people are saying the BFG edition is a bit inferior to the original, so I'm hesitant to recommend it, unfortunately.
