Hi all,
I've never been able to use GOG Galaxy's chat feature. So usually people add me, but I cannot respond back. Whenever I initiate conversation an error pops up in red at the top saying, "ERROR, can't open conversation because of privacy restrictions'.

My Profile has 'Allow Chat Messages From' - 'everyone', and my Visibility is public so I don't know why my mes

sages cannot get through? Any other setting I should be looking at? Nothing else in Settings seems pertinent.

Thanks for any help people can provide.

I've never used Galaxy but do the people you want to chat with have the settings the same as you 'Allow Chat Messages From' - 'everyone'?

Chronogon:
It might be THEIR settings that keep you from posting, at least as long you haven't added them as a friend.

Personally I'd ignore such requests. Since your chat canal is open, there's nothing preventing them from saying hi to you first, instead of just adding you without a word (unless you're talking about RL friends?). But that's just me.

Check your antivirus and firewall settings to see if one of them are blocking outbound data from Galaxy.
I've never been able to use GOG's chat feature either, but only because there's 1000 better ways to contact people.

Like the unofficial GOG DIscord servers, or IRC..
@Melvinica and @Leroux That could well be it, I hadn't thought it might be their settings, but would have figured it wouldn't have allowed them to invite to chat in the first place.

Edit: First time marking as Solved, and wanted to mark both of yours as helping. But thank you both still!

Thanks for the quick reply all of you. I will also double-check my firewall settings just in case.

Thanks again, and have a great day!

In fact, I just signed up to Discord today for a completely separate reason! Looks nice, so I must just stick to that anyway! :D

In fact, if I may, invite you over to one of the servers. This one is administrated by Zeogold, Omega64, and a few others. The other is ran by PookaMustard, and there's even a third related to the Twitch channel.

They might be inviting you precisely because they have this setting that only allows friends to chat with them and shuts everyone else out, so they explicitly make you a friend with access to their chat.

But in my experience, once you accept people's friend requests, you often never hear from them again. It's as if they just want your avatar in their 'trophy cabinet' or something. ;)
