But mid-way through this sale...

... you send out newsletter discounts with...

... Blade of Darkness at a higher discount!

Granted, the discounts are similar, but IMHO it's bad form to have competing discounts on the same game at the same time... unless... the greater discount (or the "exclusive" discount) proceeds the lesser.

Yes, I may be ranting, but...

... I hate competing discounts and price confusion. I like sales to show the best available current discount.

Newsletter discounts are always at least an extra 5% off for me.

complaints are always better acted upon after an email exchange with gog support in my experience.

If GOG starts giving Newsletter discounts that are equal to and/or no better than the regular normal sale discounts, then that would make GOG's Newletter become utterly pointless, and no one would subscribe to it any more, and therefore GOG would lose the one & only semi-decent sales-generating marketing tool that it has.

And then GOG would lose profits, which tends to be either slim and/or non-existent in most financial quarters.

So for that reason, I do not support the proposal presented in the OP.

I think you may not understand my issue (although I may be wrong).

My issue is that giving a highest discount newsletter offer on a game -- halfway through a sitewide sale on the same game -- can cause a situation where a person is...

... penalized...

... for purchasing the game from the sitewide sale.

For instance...

... I just bought Blade of Darkness from the Gore Sale (which is still on-going), but...

... today I got the discount newsletter with a larger discount.

I feel like I was penalized 5% for purchasing from the sale.

Now, if the newsletter would have come AFTER the Gore sale concluded...

... great!

But during? That just makes me feel like GOG took advantage of me purchasing early from their sale. And there's no way for me to get a refund and repurchase before the newsletter discount expires.

I know that missing out sucks, but is there an "acceptable" window where they can make both the of these offers? Can the newsletter come out 48 hours after the normal sale?

The problem is quite simple to fix...

Sending out the newsletter the day after the sale? Kinda wonky, but sure.

See, this is extra irksome because a number of people here have argued that someone should NEVER wait to purchase GOG sale games because sometimes GOG drops them from sales early without warning (have seen this numerous times). Ok...

... but now if you buy a sale game early...

... you might get a newsletter with a higher discount (while the initial sale is still running no less!).

So does one buy early... wait until the last minute for a possible newsletter discount... or just don't buy at all?

GOG has always been a little wonky, but the shenanigans are sadly rising. I didn't think I cared much about 5%, but put in a support ticket anyway. Want to hear what GOG says to this.

The newsletter discounts are a separate thing. This is what they write under the offers:

"Only GOG's newsletter subscribers are eligible for the discount.
This discount does not add up to other existing promotions.
"All-time high discount" refers to discounts on GOG.COM.
The offer ends on [...]"

True, it would be better however, if the nesletter arrived before the other discount started.
Some poeple might buy it for the "normal" discount and then won't get a refund because they already downloaded it.

Yeah, very bad wording there.

If the OP is able to buy something with a discount, which means getting something cheaper than the list price, then it's hardly a penalty, because penalty would be paying something and getting nothing in return (like speeding ticket).


Having said that, GOG really should make their pricing and practices clearer.

And it wouldn't be a bad idea to rethink those newsletter discounts, because they have so many problems, the worst being that sometimes they have promoted the biggest discount ever even if there have been bigger discounts previously, which is false advertising, and as such against the law in many places.

Just unsubscribe and never worry about it again.

I still have to see that. It wasn't the case for the games I checked.
Of course I didn't check alls of them or might just have missed it.

It was discussed in some other thread previously, I don't recall where.

I wasn't the one who noticed that, so I can't say whether it's actually happened or not, but IIRC, there even was a reference link to some price tracker with a bigger discount than the alleged all-time high in the newsletter.
