I apologize for this post in advance and will strictly not reply or post again. This is just offering a diagnosis here for those that are puzzled, and maybe don't understand why others are so serious.

I have to preface that the irony of this being an obvious derail of the thread's purpose is not lost on me, hence I find myself half smirking. That's me alright, always preferred to laugh (or argue) than cry.

So, at a more superficial level, I would like to say this ironic, sometimes cynical, derail culture that is so characteristic of GOG is not contributing. The well-meaning intolerance for serious topics that is manifested in whimsical attempts to prevent the conversation from happening, as well in aggressive attempts to likewise shut it down, is counterproductive in how it increases tensions rather then letting them be released. Don't take me wrong, as I said, this is a huge part of GOG's character, and in an entertainment based forum I think this character is more than appropriate, it is and should be typical. I mention this surface level partially in the hope some of you might see its truth and reconsider your interferences with serious threads, present and future, because it should not be that difficult to keep most of the forum focused on non-serious gaming discussion.

Then at a deeper level, reality is extremely simple: The world has become more dangerous. Seriousness is a consequence, as is frivolousness. I tried to highlight this in the other thread, that looking at the culture wars in gaming is too reductive. How many threads have you seen from posters struggling with job and family situations? How often do you see anger surface related to difficulties with achieving a desired economic or romantic situation? Do you really see anyway that it would be in our power to keep folks involved with the situations in Ukraine or Syria, for just two examples, from expressing themselves if they happen to be GOG members? Should we even try?

A few hours ago I almost posted the first part of this post, then decided I shouldn't be a spoilsport. Now I just finished reading this link.

Carry on folks. Make me smile, make me laugh. God knows I need it more and more. Thanks, and sorry again. Love ya - well, most of ya :)

In all seriousness, GOG has seen a recent influx of over opinionated asses who pollute thread after thread with their poop, not to mention the problem with the alt army. We need more silly threads. Hell, I'd settle for those Ricky threads.
