I don't even like the "rate this post" button so I would prefer keeping it anonymous. Back in the old, old day of forums, we had to actually read posts instead of just only reading the top rated posts, or worst, just thumbing up or down posts without reading

While it is unlikely to be technically feasible within the current GOG forum, I would prefer for all up-voting to be completely transparent, with the appropriate username(s) listed below a given post. At times, I am curious to learn of those whom subscribe to rather 'problematic' beliefs and/or theories (so that said users may be avoided).

However, overall, I am in favor of absolute dismantlement. (^_^)

It's interesting to see, how many forum users are apparently worried about the possible damage to their reputation, should others be able to see, whom they "support" with their upvote.

Shouldn't you be proud of what/whom you support?

Or, asked another way: how much is your support worth, if you feel, you can only grant it in secrecy?

Would you still support (what was the wording here? - "difficult topics" and "controversial topics"), if everyone could see your upvote?

And if not - why not?

Why would you NOT stand up publicly for your convictions?

Especially, if you would have no problem, doing so in anonymity?

I mean - obviously, these possibly "difficult and controversial" statements ARE your convictions, or why else would you upvote them?
So - why not stand by them?

I, on the other hand, still don't see what exactly the OP hopes to gain from publicly revealed upvotes?

Unfortunately, he didn't bother to answer my question and I truly fail to see the benefits.

Especially, since we all learned from the answers so far, that many/most would rather stop upvoting anything, than to be "outed" for the "wrong upvotes".

I hope someone will answer all your questions but it wouldn't be me : D You are not in while there is no such option and demanding me to follow your rules while addressing me in a third person like you were playing a judge or something: ) but I like you because you brought exactly what I wanted..... movement, action, interest, opinion, personality, feelings, emotions...all that stuff. I would prefer it to be publicly available knowledge.
I feel like people would then be able to identify known bots and also see common interest in games with people you have interacted before on the forums (ie. I can see we both like and want... Terraria 2 to be on GoG)

And I would prefer to have it visible who upvotes a post. Like this an upvote becomes a personal thank you for a good contribution. That's friendlier than having it anonymous like it is now.

In fact, I'm fine with both forms of handling.
Personally, I wouldn't have a problem if my vote could be seen publicly by everyone.
However, I can imagine that many forum members would then vote less or not at all and that would really distort the actual opinion.

But we already have an example here at GOG where at least the positive rating works quite openly: the rating of game progress in the profile. :-)

I think I prefer it the way it is now - anonymous. I would not mind to be public either but I think people may consider not using it if their vote can be seen by anyone. For me the ratings mostly help me finding important posts when I search for info - like for example a fix for a game in a big thread wih several pages. And here we talk mostly about games so there isn't much else to search for but gaming info.

I'm not entirely convinced of the benefits of public voting. I would rather have or make friends of those who can articulate their opinions well whether I agree with them or not. Pressing a + button means very little so I don't pay attention to it

solseb, I would prefer to have it visible as long as the new feature does not clog the post area. In order to implement that, I'd suggest the use of a discrete "hide ratings / show ratings" button. Furthermore, as pawel-t suggested above, I believe that there should be also a (-) negative option to rate a post. In my opinion, one must be responsible for their actions, both in the real and virtual worlds and transparency is one of the tools to make it happen on the internet. After all, no one's obliged to rate a post or do anything on a GOG forum for that matter. But, if someone chooses to participate, the result of his or her actions must be easily traceable to its origin by letting the searching for it available to any registered user.
