Hi,

I know I'm a bit late to the whole Witcher thing, but I completed Witcher 1 last year, and I want to play Witcher 2 soon. I own both games on GOG.

My question is this: can I uninstall my Witcher 1 before I install Witcher 2 and still have access to the save files (in the cloud or own my own hard drive), which I will need to import my character? Or do I need to install Witcher 2 before I uninstall Witcher 1?

Thanks!

Hello,

Backup your save folder just to be safe.
<Documents>\The Witcher\

See PCGamingWiki for Mac and Steam Play (Linux) locations.
When you uninstall The game, the uninstaller will ask you if you want to keep or remove your save files, but to be safe backup your save files like Ice_Mage said but dont forget to put them back in the same location, if i remember correctly, The Witcher 2 will only load save files stored in the original location.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, when I imported a save from Witcher to the Witcher 2 many of the choices I made ended up getting retconned or ignored.
Well, there's a list of events that depend on choices in Witcher 1. Certain sequences won't unlock without the savegames.

I wonder if the savegames from the upcoming Witcher 1 remaster will work for that as well.

There's only a handful of things it effects, and most aren't worth the trouble, but if you've got the file why not do it.

Pretty sure it's a remake, and I wouldn't count on it.

Well from my experience there was no difference between my import and the default game of W2 aside from a handful of codex entries quickly dismissing my choices to all out plot holes that were never addressed.

I know Siegfriend shows up if you kept him as a friend in TW1. There's a few other things like that iirc. But yes, it was mostly pointless.
Speaking of, did they ever fix the issue with that small amount of money that'd carry over, which would only do so if you skipped that arena bit to advise you on the difficulty level?

What I did when I finished Witcher 1 was install Witcher 2 even though my computer would have really struggled with it, import the save (multiple times, since I tried that arena (failing miserably) once or twice and I'd start with no gold, so looked it up and saw the problem and then started over, skipping that part), save again immediately after the game actually started, then keep that save for whenever I'll be able to play the game. And since this computer only has integrated graphics, they're still waiting... For 8 years now...
