You really shouldn't give this a pass.

King of Dragon Pass, the updated version of the seminal strategy/RPG with innovative storytelling, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% discount until December 10, 11PM UTC.

Almost 20 years after its original release, the fantasy classic returns with a sharper UI and the lovely illustrations cleaned up to be more on par with modern standards. Its seminal worldbuilding and addictive gameplay are as absorbing as ever, plus the added content promises to give veterans extra incentive to return to this wonderful saga.

This is a free update for all owners of the classic version, which is now included in this as a bonus goodie.

Watch the trailer.

I've listened to the comments for a while, but never got the game, even though I had thought about it. Today is the day I buy it.
Wow, nice! Thanks GOG and Asharp/Herocraft!

Free upgrade for owners? Original included? No price increase? That's fantastic. Thank you! I should really get around to playing this one. Those reviews are glowing.
I think the ducks are the ancestors of the bird people from Wing Commander.
The game seems to got achievements but the game features doesn't say so.
Nice. So it is possible for devs to marginally up the graphics without removing the original and doubling the price...*cough*beam*<cough>

This is what I entered the thread to find out. Thanks for keeping it around.
Great news. The original was already atemporal, yet an upgrade is always welcome!

This game allows you to do things you cannot do in any other game.

Guiding a Northern clan over the years and generations, dealing with people who feel real. Inmersing yourself in another culture that you will need to understand in order to progress.

Inspired in Glorantha lore.

There is nothing like this game (developers, pay heed).
This actually looks pretty nice. I might give the game another shot just to see it in action. I reall liked KoDP when I played it some time ago, but I eventually got bored becasue I couldn't seem to make any real progress.

Thank you for keeping the original game - for me the remastered design is terrible and sterile. While in the original game the whole gui seemed to be part of the gameworld, the remastered version destroys this immersive feature of the gui by using a very mundane design that's functional, but misses the universal aesthetic of the original game (where the whole design indeed was greater than the mere sum of its parts). Especially many of the beautiful pictures (the now tiny season pictures for example) suffer from it. I'll stay with the original game, but it's nice to add the remaster here, so thank you.

Take note devs. It's actually easy to make an already great game even better without compromising the original and/or upsetting the fans/clients.

And fellow gamers, seriously, buy this. Play it. Cherish it.
Uuuu, nice, Beamdog should learn from this.
Thanks for the free update! Looking forward to the the Six Ages as well!

One question, is the "original 1999 release" the old gog installer?

Maybe you can try making your clan achieving a stronger position with good relationships and a healthy quantity of resources, and then forming a tribe and achieving the kingship of it.

In other to do this, it pays off learning a bit about the Orlanthi economy and culture, its mores and its gods.

Also, if you inmerse yourlself in the Orlanthi culture and society, you will be better equipped to deal with the events and dilemmas. You have to think like an Orlanthi.

Then, you can move on towards the ultimate goal... Becoming the King of Dragon Pass!
