meh, the story of the original Baldur's Gate games is concluded, to announce a "Baldur's Gate 3" is just a lame marketing exercise, since there can't be any meaningful continuity.

Will the games official title be 3 though, I doubt it's an continuation and expect it to be set after the trilogy in and around the Baldur's Gate area with new characters, story etc. but the effets from the bhaalspawn crisis may still linger to some degree if this indeed is a Baldur's Gate game.

With people such as Colin McComb (Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Wasteland 2, Torment Tides of Numenera) and Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie (Torment Tides of Numenera, Wasteland 3, Phantom Doctrine) on the team this could actually turn out half-decent.

The 10's was surely the decade of nostalgia. Successors nobody asked for and half-assed reboots sum up both the film and game industry quite well.

I enjoy the Infinity Engine era as much as the next guy, but the track record for titles that play heavily on nostalgia is not great.

Since Bhaal is alive and well in the Forgotten Realms, this.


Damn asshole had a contingency plan that would auto gather all his shards and ressurect him because he didn't trust his followers to follow the plan as it were (he was right). None of the other gods thought this was possible and Bhaal essentially gave them the middle finger and did it anyway.

There was comic titled Baldur's Gate and Bhaal is alive in 5th Edition Forgotten Realms. So yes, there can be continuation.
