muddysneakers: How does this compare to something like Higurashi? I only have two visual novel data points, Higurashi and Highway Blossums. I really enjoyed Higurashi but Highway Blossums was a little meh.
I haven't played Highway Blossoms but from what I can tell both it and Higurashi are kinetic VNs. Amnesia has choices and different routes with different endings.

What did you like about Higurashi and what didn't you like about HB? It's probably hard to compare Amnesia to either anyway but that might help.

This doesn't look like a Frictional game.

Why didn't they just call it "Memories of amnesia" or something? This is way more confusing than I(r)on Maiden.

Maybe the other game should've called itself "The Dark Descent: Amnesia". ;)

I've played this! The only VN I've ever played because it came in some Humble Bundle.

I didn't take it very seriously, when I was asked if I could remember my name I said "Buttwhore". It gave me about 5 whole minutes of amusement when everyone in the game was calling me Buttwhore with a perfectly straight face. Then it wore off and the rest of the game was boring. I don't think these types of game are my thing.

I really enjoyed the story and mystery of Higurashi. Highway Blossoms was a little too whimsical for my tastes I think.

Amnesia is focused on the romance aspect but there's some mystery and a bit of a supernatural element to it. I'd definitely not call it whimsical. For its current price it's more than worth it imo, but that's for you to decide. :p
