Totally FREE and massive, like a really big, explosive bird creature.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, a free and huge expansion to the award-winning NES-style platformer, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

Shovel Knight promised and delivered: a core platformer, an NES-style palette, pixel-perfect gameplay, a hero out to save the world and get the girl - but most importantly - a true understanding of what made the classics tick. Following critical acclaim and a hugely successful launch, another promise was made: a significant expansion, free for everyone, excitement. And now it's here.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows expands on nearly every aspect of the original release: there's a new adventure to go on (maybe some romance too), new gameplay mechanics, an alchemy crafting system, new objectives, new bosses, and even new paths, nooks, and crannies in the original levels. It truly is the game anew. Among it all is a new playable character: an old friend, the Plague Knight, offering a completely different style of play. He's an explosive trickster, whose mobility, weapons, and move-set offer new challenges whether you're playing through the classic levels or the new campaign. For a better idea of what's new (and the fascinating design process), check out the dev's blog on the Plague Knight's Mobility Design!

Get in on an all-new Shovel Knight with the Plague of Shadows update - available now, DRM-free on GOG.com

Stream watch:

Tune in to Twitch.tv/GOGcom tomorrow - that is, on Friday, September 18th - to see Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows streamed live by VideoGameCarnage and cheer him on!
It isnt free, because it takes you time to run through the game a second time. Something I dont want to do now.
So has somebody a save?
EDIT: A Cheat solved the problem.

I enjoyed this game so much that I made a point of finding the Yacht Games booth at PAX PRIME last year and buying a shirt and soundtrack from them. I just tried out the free expansion and it is taking a bit for me to get used to Plague Knight. They have done a new story and some new locations for him. For free after the price of admission. I feel blessed not ripped off.

If you like platformers at all buy this game on sale or not. It is amazing! (For the record I got it on WiiU where it is always $15 US) If you don't like old style platformers I would still consider it as it is a great example that surpasses the old games in many ways but pays tribute to them.
Okay, it seems the devs don't have anything against GOG, I will add this game back to my wishlist.

As for discounts, my perspective is I have many games in my GOG library I have yet to play, to pay premium for to play game early is not a good idea. So I am willing to wait. Making a game more expensive when it is new and has people's attention is totally to be expected.
If I decide to buy Shovel Knight, do I need to buy a gamepad too? Or keyboard is enough?

Shovel Knight works pretty well with a keyboard. Just keep in mind that it's a NES style platformer (pretty unforgiving). This game is one of the reasons why I replaced my old Xbox 360 controller with a new Xbox One controller (which has a functional D-Pad).

Thanks for the info. :)

MrFortyFive: It is slightly annoying that the Steam version has been discounted while the GOG version hasn't, but if there's ever a game worth paying full price for, it's this one, especially considering full price really is quite reasonable.

Magnitus: Dang, I was *this* close to caving in, accepting that the game would never go on sale and buy it at full price.

Why did you have to ruin it for me? Now, I just have to wait for them to match the Steam price here...
Honestly, it's absolutely worth the full price. Currently there's two characters to play through the game as, New Game+ for each, Challenge Mode for each, various Feats (basically achievements) to attempt (again, for each character), and way more to come. It's currently confirmed that there will be two more characters added in the future along with a couple of other things that were stretch goals during the Kickstarter campaign. My hope is that they'll try to make all of the bosses playable someday, but only time will tell with that.

The game was worth it at full price before this expansion, and with at least two more playable bosses on the way I think it's safe to say that you'll get more than your money's worth even if you don't wait for a sale.

It should be noted to manage expectations that it took about 1.25 years for this expansion to release, so it will probably be a while before each of the other confirmed characters get their expansions. Again though, it's absolutely worth it even without those extra characters. If you do buy the game, I hope you have a great time with it!

Is it possible to bind any of the actions to the mouse buttons?

No idea, sorry. If no one answers your question until tomorrow I'll reinstall the game and try it out.

Nope it is not possible. No mouse at all in the game. I just tested it.
