rtcvb32: You sure? I've heard the license/eula for the DS/3DS was anything you put through the system belonged to nintendo... If it belongs to nintendo, why wouldn't they use it? They've re-purposed and reused old code and characters before.

Besides, they are already charging a huge sum for anyone to use their assets on Youtube from their own personality, content, or gameplay...

I'll be pessimistic until they start making smart decisions.
You mean like most EULA's? Also Nintendo might reuse a few assets in a same-platform sequel because it saves time and wasn't broken, but they don't do it any more than anyone else.

You mean taking royalties off people using their content? I may not agree with them taking as large a cut as they do, and I concede they're missing out on free advertising by doing it, but it's their content and they have every right to do so.

Nintendo has misjudged markets and made some missteps over the years but they are not stupid. Nintendo won't box up people's levels and resell them as a game because... why? The idea is nonsensical, it would undermine their own product in Mario Maker. At most, they could create a DLC map pack out of top tier user content but even that I find very unlikely.

Also, all I wanted was a thread to share levels in SMM to have fun, not get into or start arguments. :/

The only thing that's really stopping me from getting the game is the price (which usually isn't that big a deal for me when it comes to certain games), but looking at some gameplay footage it seems fun for the most part.

Super Mario Brothers 2 was an entire game they reused. Not sure if that's a bad example, but it's there.

Actually most Mario Party games reuse a lot of assets... Geez... i can't think of half of their properties or games, so i don't know what else to reference.

At present i wouldn't put it past them.

Sorry to be a party pooper... :(

stg83: GOGlings refers to the wee ones of the Goglodytes because Nintendo games are mostly for tykes. :P

So both are for kids then?

( J/K -- actually that pic is pretty fun, and probably close to the truth. :D )
i have always hated nintendo for not selling their consoles here , i was such a huge fan of mario before sadly on the sony train now , good to see there are still people using a nintendo console, i thought the handhelds were more popular
Level designing never was my thing, but the tool sounds fun/exciting for those that do enjoy that sort of thing.

Kind of surprised it took this long for them to even do it.

If you're able to, some of you should share videos of your levels. Could be fun to watch.

It seems to be popular enough. I think Nintendo's consoles would do better if they'd give them a bit more oomph though. Not to mention, rightfully or wrongfully, Nintendo has an image as a kiddie console. Which I think discourages some people. Having said that, if I had to choose between keeping my Wii or XBox 360. I'd keep the Wii.

Funny enough, I got the Wii shortly after the WiiU came out. At the time, I stupidly thought the WiiU was just an add-on or something so didn't even consider it when I purchased the Wii. Although I probably would have still gotten the Wii since the Wii at the time was $99 vs I think $250/300 for the WiiU.

Now that the next console will possibly be out in a few months (so I've heard)...need to decide if I will get a heavily marked down WiiU or just wait for the newer consoles eventual price drop in a year or two.

The Wii U has had a decent uptick recently with the likes of Mario Maker and Splatoon, with some amazing looking games about to hit, it's definitely not too late to support. The next console (if it even IS a traditional console) won't hit for another two years at a guess, right now it's still only a codename and we'll only be finding out the first details at E3 next year.

With regards to SMB2, they actually did more work than was necessary, redrawing assets and bringing over Yume Kojo Doki Doki Panic was a bolder move than bringing over the Japanese SMB2 which is for all intents and purposes, a rom hack. Plus Miyamoto worked much more intimately with Doki Doki Panic and in fact it was a project that started out as him tooling around with the Mario formula before they made a licensing deal with Fuji. It was always a game born of Mario.

I cut Mario Party some slack in that regard because most people playing it are drunk or too busy calling each other cheating bastards to really appreciate nuanced audio/visuals. I also need to point out Mario Party has never been developed internally by Nintendo, it was mostly Hudson Soft, and now Nd Cube.
I made a few levels, but be warned I do like to make them at full speed and quite difficult:

Piranha Plant's Pyromaniac Peril
FE27-0000-0020-28E7

The King & Queen Honeymoon Suite
7689-0000-003B-1B8E

Not As Hard As It Looks
0533-0000-005C-A4CA

They're all quite simple run-as-fast-you-can levels that require you to go full speed at all times and and stuff but they're the kind of levels I like. I do get some comments complaining about the difficulty on miiverse but whatevs.
Just finished my first truly solo level, probably spent more time on it than it's worth but I'm pretty pleased. :)

It's About Time ...ing.

You... are mean, lol. Pirahna Plant's Pyromaniac Peril gave me the most grief, tight courses though. :)

Nice ones, Going deeper underground is dastardly.

I wish there was a way to disable the level preview as it gives away so many surprises. I deliberately avoid looking at them now.
