So I was sitting around pondering the rather shitty GOG reputation system & why GOG doesn't do something about it... despite numerous pleas/comments from the users.

And a thought exercise came to mind.

Would it be possible to force CDP/GOG to action against the individuals & systems acting with botnets on the GOG forums by laying a complaint under the Polish Cyber Security laws.

Specifically something along the lines of:

Quote:
The digital service provider shall take appropriate and proportionate technical and organizational measures as set out in Implementing Regulation 2018/151 to manage the risks to information systems used to provide the digital service. These measures ensure cybersecurity that is appropriate to the risks involved and take into account:

<End of Quote>

An obvious risk that is very obviously not being dealt with is botnets & botnet operators appear to have been operating on the GOG systems with impunity for a number of years.

What do bread crumb thoughts bring you to in such an action?

That's an awfully complicated and bureaucratic idea for a problem that GOG, all on its own, could & should easily solve by entirely deleting the rep system, which is inherently toxic.

Besides, that idea in the OP wouldn't actually solve anything, because it's not just bot users that abuse the rep system in order to shame & bully other users into only saying things that they agree with...but rather, it's also mobs of GOG users who do so en masse via manual clicks.

Not to mention that the laws you are talking about are surely for serious crimes...the enforcers of that are not going to waste their time & money with something that is relatively trivial, like bots abusing a GOG forum rep system.

Thus, GOG itself entirely deleting the defective & abusive rep system is still the only viable solution, and it's something that should have already done years ago.

Yeah, deleting the rep system and implementing a "Buy or GTFO" ("Redeem", if some insist) would be a much simpler system.

SomethingAwful uses a similar system, and it does help keep the bots out.

And Paradox uses similar as a pseudo-DRM system to stop you from talking to other players about technical problems with their games.

(iow... they only allow access to the tech sub-forums if you have a serial or some manner of verified copy of the game. Non-technical forums are still open last I checked. My DRM serial-less Paradox games from GamersGare are all locked out of beta patches & tech help on their forums because they're wankers. That said... thankfully there's better overall forums to use, like reddit or Steam.)

everything can be done in the wrong way

yeah reporting these botters + gog is the way to go , if they cant keep out these obvious rep spammers , I cant see how they can be secure enough to trust our personal data with them
