This isn't anything big but I felt like sharing.

For those who don't know the CEO of a healthcare insurance company in the US was recently murdered in broad daylight. When I visited youtube yesterday my news section ONLY had videos about that, nothing else. Apparently nothing else happened in the US yesterday, or even the world. Feeling bored, and irritated, I clicked "not interested" on every single video, which is supposed to stop those specific videos from appearing again in my feed. I reloaded the page, and the news section had more videos, all about him again. So I blocked all those vids, reloaded, and AGAIN only got vids on this story! I kept blocking vids and reloading just to see how far this would go... how long until youtube offered some news vids on anything else. Well, YT just stopped offering me a dedicated news subsection after blocking about 50+ vids. It never showed me a single vid on any other news story.

I visited YT again tonight after work. My news section is still gone, and just a few news vids appear. Still only about him.

We have shootings all the time in the US and generally only mass shootings get media attention. Sure, when a news story just happened you'll see more articles/vids about that event than others, but YT insists on only telling me about this one story, no matter how many vids I block. I can't help but see this as an example of the disparate treatment between the masses and the ultra rich. Regular people killed every day? Who cares! A millionaire killed? Flood the presses!!!!!

Just wanted to rant.
It's the sociopolitical implications of "eating the rich" and the spin-off discussions of private sectors' role in American healthcare and its quality that is engaging a lot of other folks.

Okay, question: Why the [REDACTED] are you involving yourself with the horror show that is the news cycle in the first place?

Especially on Youtube, of all places? That's supposed to be the funny cat video website.

The way I see it, any news worth (ACTUALLY) hearing should naturally come to to me via osmosis. Anything else is [REDACTED] effluent.

More to the point, what is this sidebar, you speak of?

Did it help?

I had a question tho. Were you logged into a Youtube account, or do you access Youtube "incognito"?

I've noticed that when I access Youtube with either Edge or Chrome where I am automatically logged into my Youtube-account and all the cookies are intact etc., I tend to get videos about subjects that I often watch. Naturally it also affects that I've subscribed to certain channels etc.

When I go to Youtube with Firefox instead (where I browse pretty much incognito, cookies cleared, not automatically logged into anywhere etc.), I tend to get Finnish Youtube videos about some crazy Finnish guy testing every strong chili sauce from the local grocery store, or other stupid trending shit like that that kids here apparently watch all the time.

So I was just wondering if you are seeing those "CEO shooting videos" with your Youtube account, or according to the generic trends?

I just tested what I get with both my Youtube account and without, and I don't recall seeing any of those CEO shooting videos so far. I've heard about it in the news though, briefly, so it did reach this side of the pond as well. All I know that some insurance company CEO or something was shot on the street, the perpetrator fled with bicycle, and there was some slogan or something in the shell that lawyers tend to use, like "Your honor, I object!" or "Pro bono publico"?. Very confusing news with so little data.

Hey, don't you question my quota of cat videos! Let me tell you, I watch TONS of cat vids. All the time. Nobody watches more cat vids than me. Okay, maybe drxenija, but nobody else! I ususally ignore the news section... it's only because ALL the vids were on one subject that it drew my attention.

And thank you for the suggestion, I'll look into it.

Yes. I've always been logged in so I can reply to comments when I wish. However YT seems to have now "downgraded" me, so that many of my posts are either deleted soon after posting, or hidden so that nobody sees them. That's frustrating for me and is causing me to consider logging out permanently. Why give YT/google data on my habits if they won't let me post?

I deleted my YT account about three weeks ago.
One of the best decisions I've ever made.
Can recommend!
