All I want is an army of skeletons or skeleton equivalents to do the dirty work for me.

Darvallas: I find the Ys series to be really good.
Thing is, Ys games are not "like Diablo" at all. Ys-type games vs. Diablo-type games are operating in entirely different sub-genres.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Baldur's Gate 2 is certainly nowhere close to being "the best game of all time."

And hack and slash games are generally quite terrible since they rely on endlessly repetitive grinding of the same trash mobs over and over again in hopes to win an RNG lottery.
Yes, i have noticed that as well. You develop a couple of skills for you character and then you just spam their over and over again.

You fall into a loop.

Worst of all, these games require a lot of commitnent since if you exit the game the whole world state gets "reloaded", and so you need to kill all the mobs again. Or if the game crashes on you... I am playing Diablo 2 and i have had many situations where the game crashed on me after i had slaughtered dozens of mobs to clear the way.
I love Titan Quest and Grim Dawn. Those are FANTASTIC games.

Maybe mentioned because both are action RPG and understood the OP that way...

I see. I read hack and slash and saw Diablo was isometric and I immediately thought of Ys. Looking at some gameplay, though, it really doesn't seem like the same type of game. I might have to give it a try later.
