Asteroids for Atari 7800... I may only be half kidding. =/
The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos

As a good old gamer, I rarely play new games, so it was very difficult to choose ones.
And this game has been only played so.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.

I've wanted an actually worthy successor to the original Konami TMNT arcade games for decades, I have been let down so many times. I've also been wanting a new no nonsense, no gimmicks, belt-scrolling brawler with presentation to match its mechanics like this for almost as long.

My runner up for GOTY is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I've never even been a Kirby fan, but this game scratched my 3D action platforming itch in all the right ways, apart from length. This would have been my no.1 pick if it wasn't so short.

As for biggest disappointment, that very handily goes to the execrable mess that is Shadow Warrior 3.

I'll join the crowd for Elden Ring. Yes, it's still Dark Souls, but it's best Dark Souls so far.
For me personally it was Return To Monkey Island.

UnrealDelusion: For me personally it was Return To Monkey Island.
Definitly one of the gams I would put in the top section of the ranking list. I don't think it's the best game of the year, but the one which certainly had the most impact.
Even with it looks, it felt like returning home. And "home" is always good.

I had loads of fun with "Horizon Chase Turbo". It's amazing how addictive that game is.
After completing the campaign to 100% on PC, I did the same on the PS4.

Sherlock Holmes was good as well, along with some other adventure games.

But I think the game which I enjoyed most this year was Marvel's Spider-Man - even after I alreaedy completed it on PS4 two or three years ago. I just love swinging around through the City, this is just the game for me.

I'm going to bend the rules slightly and say Demon's Winter. While I haven't played it for real, I've enjoyed exploring the game with hacked characters and figuring out what sorts of builds work (and finding a few bugs, which I expect to never be fixed given the game's age).

(Have to bend the rules a bit because it was apparently released on gog in December 2021, so it barely misses 2022. That's going by the gog release date, of course; the original release was back in 1989.)
Elden Ring, no contest.

Honorable mention to Death Stranding: DC since i did spent countless hours with it.

Disappointment of 2022 - Bleak Faith: Forsaken didn't release :(

NuffCatnip: Sorry for my offtopic post, but did you buy a PS 4 or 5 copy or did you purchase it on Steam?
My standard PS4 is having issues running the game, I rarely have a smooth framerate. I searched around for a bit and some threads on Reddit and gamefaqs mentioned the game having performance issues and input delay, seems like a minority though and it could be that my PlayStation is dying. :P

paladin181: If you don't have a PS4 Pro, then your PS4 is probably fine. The game ran terribly, especially early on.

To answer your inquiry though, I got it on Steam.
Thanks for answering, it's shocking in which states somw games get released on consoles, Elden Ring isn't nearly the worst in that regard.

Ah, definitely would run better on my PC than the old PS4.

ssling: Postal: Brain Damaged

It's mindblowing to me how this brilliant shooter got overlooked.
An extremely fun shooter. They recently added a new horde mode.

Only finished 5 games but i did enjoy Carmageddon: Max Damage pretty much on this laptop that can play it. Which i started using this year.
The fox mode was pretty wack and had more fun with it than i should.

Ah sorry didn't notice the op post that the game has to be from 2022.

Occurred to me that Skyrim, which I played for the first time this year, could also qualify (based on its GOG release date).

Personally, any game you played this year regardless of release date qualifies. The OP asked for YOUR game of the year. That means pretty much any personal qualifications for a game you played and enjoyed this year should be considered. That's my personal take, IMO. I mean he lays out rules, but this is a forum. Rules are for suckers! :P

Elden Ring. That game made me use Steam.
“Sniper Elite 5”.

Once I get around to playing it, I hope “Return to Monkey Island” will take the crown instead.

If stretching the rules to allow December ‘21, my pick would be “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice”.
2022 GOTY (Released & Played in 2022) = APT: Requiem.
Backlogged GOTY for (Released before 2022, but played in 2022) = RDR2.
