It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I've installed it on both my machines, no real complaints, both upgrades went smoothly. Everything i've tested works well.

The only things that annoyed me is they do turn a lot of dumb shit on by default that shouldn't be, and really try to make you use their new apps as defaults instead of your current ones.

Qwertyman: Can you clarify what you mean by forcing you to use Bing! for search results? Do you mean if you search locally (like from the Start menu to find a program on the computer) that it actually produces Bing! results as well?
Yes it does, but you can shut off the Bing results completely.

JMich: Ok, finished with the upgrade. First thing that will make a few people happy, is that you are able to downgrade back to what you used, as long as you do said downgrade within a month of the update. See the attached picture.
A month. Why such an arbitrary time limit?

And I presume a clean install downgrade to Windows 7 will always be possible, this upgrade will not block it in any way (like making your Windows 7 license obsolete because you have supposedly upgraded it to a Windows 10 license)?

Just asking to be sure, nowadays I take nothing for granted, not even death...

How? I would prefer not getting online results at all over getting Bing results. I would be okay if they let me change the search provider to Google or something else, but that does not seem to be an option outside of the web browser.

Annoying, but as long as it can be disabled then it's not a huge deal.

Open the Search and click the gear icon on the left, then you can shut off online results.

Yeah it looks like it's locked to Bing, I couldn't find a way to change the search provider.

cogadh: but for some reason shortcuts can't be pinned to the start menu (no Steam or Galaxy shortcuts for me I guess)
Start, type Galaxy, right click, Pin to Start. It goes on the right side, where the tiles are, so you may have to remove the stuff you don't want cluttering the start menu.

As far as I know, your Windows 7 licence will, after the first month, get changed to a Windows 10 licence if you do not downgrade before.

So far, it can't even find Galaxy or Steam via that method. In fact, more than half the items I have installed that used to have Start menu shortcuts are missing in the search, though if I browse through the file directories, I can find and launch them directly from the executable. Dragging desktop shortcuts to the Start menu shows the "Pin to Start menu" prompt, but nothing happens when I drop it. Its great that 10 has the Start menu that 8 was lacking (was one of the many reasons I avoided 8), but it sucks that it basically does not work at all for me.

Thank you! Of course it was a completely obvious thing, I was looking for an obscure settings because, well... Windows.

It took some time for the items to show up, since Win10 took its sweet time with the indexing. Once that was done though, all shortcuts appear just fine.
Do also check under "All Apps", even though the GOG.com folder is a bit of a mess.
Can i get the free upgrade if i download the ISO files Microsoft's website, or do i have to wait till the upgrade icon shows up?

Yeah, all of the "All Apps" is a mess. Neither Galaxy or Steam are listed there either, nor are the majority of my 200+ Steam games and 80+ GOG games. I checked the indexing progress and it is running, or at least it says it has indexed a few hundred thousand things, just apparently not most of my gaming related stuff.

You can download an ISO, i'm not sure if MS has official links up to them yet. I got mine off reddit.
I have Windows 8.1 on my tablet and Windows 10 preview on my desktop so I will be upgrading ASAP.

Really? Then it is definitely a good thing I asked, because it means I will definitely turn down this offer. I do want the ability to go back to Windows 7 at will at any time, if I feel like it.

Oddly, I got a different impression when I asked it here in this forum before, ie. that you retain both your Windows 7 (or 8) and 10 license for that same PC, and can switch back and forth between them if you want (through clean install at least). Similarly like when I bought the cheap Windows 8 Pro upgrade, it didn't invalidate my old Windows 7 license. I could even have them both installed side by side on the same PC if I wanted.

If what you say is true, then I will not use Windows 10 until it comes preloaded on my future PC, which I will buy in 1-10 years from now, depending on shit and stuff. My current Windows 7 PC will remain as a Windows 7 PC (and I have that Win 8 Pro license for it too, just in case). Maybe also turn it into a multiboot Linux machine at some point, especially if Windows 7 support is ending.

Only catch is... what he says is not true. Anyone can downgrade from Windows 10 to whatever Windows version they upgraded from until the end-of-life for that OS. So until 2020 for Windows 7.

Goddammit people, stop with this internet voodoo advice. "I heard it on teh intarwebs so it must be true!!!111!"
