I care more for AOE2 but since AOE2 is not on GOG, I won't expect AOM to be on GOG as well.

Welcome to 99% of PC gaming in the year 2014.
Somewhat unrelated, it's a bit of a tossup for me whether or not AoE II or AoM is my favorite Age game. The pop cap in AoM is really low, especially for the Greeks, but I love the art they had in that game (except for Athena's portrait, that one, while accurate, does me little). AoE II was really good, but it's real off putting to play as the Japanese fighting Koreans and you see a knight prance by, or playing as Britons fighting Franks, Teutons, and Goths only to see an eagle warrior run through your camp. Really takes me out. Still, they're both amazing games.

Just went to the site, the site sucks and the new art sucks really badly, not even gonna dignify it. Thanks to the OP for calling it to my attention, however.

Working on that last 1%, you just wait. By 2015 there will be no more PC gamers, only Steam gamers on computer and Steam Box (I think is what it's called).

The market is the boss, and the market wants that. It is what it is.
I'm not sure how I feel about the new graphics.... I hope there's a "classic" mode
Whether you love or hate Valve's Steam, it has helped PC gaming stay viable and grow.

Look at AoM Extended Edition for example. I doubt this game would exist if it wasn't for Steam or some other similar client service in its place. Valve offers a lot to devs/publishers with how they've set up their service, and they're seeing better ROI using that service.
At least it would be good that we had Age of Empires 1 on GOG.com.

The market has bred a community of freeloaders who demand brand new games for $5. You reap what you sow.

Ah, this old chestnut. I really don't know why this myth keeps getting propagated. PC gaming was doing just fine until Steam came along. It was perfectly viable. Piracy is no better than it was a decade ago - if anything, it's worse.

All that Steam has contributed is to show people that they can demand games for ridiculously low amounts of money. As a result, the PC market is now full of useless shovelware and F2P (and some very delayed console ports) because AAA games simply aren't viable for the most part anymore.

I don't think this "new" game will be sold for any less than $20 tbh.

Also I find it weird how they HD-ized AoE2 but they haven't touched AoE1, I'd like to see the original campaign and expansion ported to the AoE2 engine with improvements.

Yeah, right. This thread wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Steam.

I'm not going to waste time breaking it down to counter or refute your reasoning.

You can hate Steam but also admit it totally reinvigorated the PC market, which it did. It's okay to admit other people like things you don't.

Actually, I don't hate Steam in itself - I find it a reasonably competent attempt at standardising various elements of PC gaming. But as I say, it didn't 'reinvigorate' the PC market in any way. All it has done is create a central worldwide marketplace to give the illusion of success.

Whatever man. Ignoring the obvious is always fun I guess.

To a degree you're not wrong but whether you want to admit it or not PC gaming was at it's last gasp before Steam took off. The console market boom would of killed it for sure.

It might have contributed to the PC platform. But in no way did PC Gaming ever required saving or in danger of being killed off by consoles..
