Dear Dudes and Dudettes,

I'm playing the first Advance Wars for the GBA, and I was just wondering - do you guys know how to read the Unit Cards? I'm trying to understand the whole hit potential thing - I'm guessing that the circle and the triangle backgrounds indicate a unit's hit potential against other units, but which is less and which is more? Also, are there other shapes that I haven't seen yet? (Like rectangles.) If so, what are they and how do they rank compared to the circle and the triangle?

I don't have the manual since I bought the game used on Amazon a long time ago, and I couldn't find any answers by googling.

Thanks for you guys' help!

uh just at a guess but i'd say circle = effective, triangle = neutral, x = ineffective.

Wow, that's a super handy site right there! I've plenty of games I've bought used, so I'm bookmarking it for future use!

If no one comes along and explains the difference between the geometrical figures, I'll mark your reply as the right one! I couldn't find anything in the manual about the geometrical figures themselves (from semi-skimming through it), but I did find a handy combat chart in the back of it. :D

GOG users to the rescue, as always. ;) Thanks, buddy!
Too bad Nintendo won't do anything with that IP anymore since it stopped making them money.

So odd as I thought it was one of their "mainstay" franchises, after, you know, stuff they first created thirty freakin' years ago. I thought Advance Wars was one of their more popular Gameboy / DS era titles... surprised it fell off.

Does Nintendo even have a handheld now? I got a bit lost as to what was their new handheld system and what was just some sort of new iteration of the existing one. They really dropped the ball on informing the consumer if this was NEW SHINY DEVICE 3... or DEVICE 2.5... or DEVICE 2.7... or...

*sorry, end jaded old Nintendo fan rant, just bummed they decided to rest on their laurels and will now probably fade away sooner rather than later - good run though*

The last one I think is the 3DS XL and yes "Advance Wars" is really a great game, the one I played was the DSi one.
I still hope for a new Advance Wars on the 3DS. Fire Emblem almost faded away(also made by Intelligent Systems) but got back on track with Awakening. I'm hoping the same can happen with AW.

I hope they pull a Sega, free themselves from the constraints of their own hardware and start selling just games, preferably with much of their stuff re-released for dirt cheap. Advance Wars can already be played through emulators on Android devices; why not make a couple of dollars out of the deal while you're at it?

Fire Emblem was another game I was thinking of when I wrote my previous post. Odd I NEVER realized they were made by the same company!

Yeah, a 3DS Advance Wars game would be awesome! I think the AW\FE games are probably my favorite strategy games - I love how incredibly unforgiving they are. Makes you really exercise that strategy muscle to avoid making mistakes, and you hate yourself for weeks whenever any of your FE characters dies. :p
