Isn't Crysis a PC exclusive big budget FPS (that apparently has a piracy rate of something like a million billion percent if you listen to certain people)?
I think what we really need is to have a CEO who came up through the creative side of a company like EA. Those are the people who could really make a major change since they're more likely to use the products they produce. I imagine that most EA/Ubi/ActiBliz/Lucasarts executives probably would not have any interest in games at all. No matter how well they run the business side, a fundamental lack of love for their product is the kind of thing that ruins their product.
Adventure, sim, 4X, puzzle, hardcore RPGs or turn-based strategy <--
Yet all of these types have appeared on the PC in the last few years and sold well. Some have migrated to other consoles after, but there have been a lot that have stayed.
Galciv II and expansions, Sam and Max, The Sims and various other simulations games, The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights 2, upcoming dragon age..etc.
And you know what? there will be more to come. The best thing about the PC is that it is an open platform: You will find that most indie development will start on the PC. There are a *ton* of really good free or low priced PC games out there. I don't give a rats butt about big budget PC only FPS's honestly; I've never been one to play alot of those. But for everything else? The PC is a very robust market. Plus digital download of games (leagally) has taken off on PC more then it has on the consoles.... I don't expect pc games or "PC style" games todie anytime soon.

Yep. I actualy think that the return of those genres is directly caused by more mainstream devs switching to consoles

Well outside of Valve, FPS games aren't selling as well as they used to on the PC. But the other genres are starting to sell better. I guess my point is that PC gaming isn't dying and won't be dead anytime soon.
It will be interesting to see how gaming goes in the next ten years.
this thread has gone on too long, I already told you "no."
it is not dying, and it won't die as long as there are computers and people who want to play games. has the percentage of people who play games on pcs versus those who don't gotten bigger? surely there are less people who use their computer for gaming, but those are people who don't game anyway, people who are confused about what a computer is and how it works, people who use myspace, their email, and im, to talk about television, he said she said bull, socialites. meaningless nothings to the game industry.
regardless, a computer is the best platform for gaming, while certain games feel better with a controller, get a god damn joystick., it works all the same.
anyone who is arguing that PC gaming is going the way of the dinosaur is a stupid troll.

Heh this is a thread that will be rinsed and repeated every console generation until consoles and computers are one universal piece of hardware that can be artistically crafted in to any shape you want.
And see? You say computers are the best platform for gaming. That is something that could be argued, honestly.
Then again it could be said that even consoles are computers because, really, they are. hmmm...
Of course I could *then* get in to the idea that face to face gaming with strategy, board games, Pen and Paper RPGs all have something that video games lack.
:D but that isn't for this thread, heh.

Actualy they are selling much better than they used to. The problem is that the sales didn't increase as much as production costs did.

No, it's not arguable, when you have a system that has a near infinite back catalogue that most everyone has in their home that literally has no format competition (sorry, but mac and linux do not compete with windows in the game sense, there are no mac or linux exclusive games these days that are major releases), you have nearly all the pros of a console a few cons of one.
If you had a game console with an infinite library, and almost everyone had one or could get one for somewhere around $150 (this should run most older pc games), would it not be considered the best console ever?
Also, how about this, you can upgrade your system so you never really have too much of a need to completely buy a new system unless there's some sort of technological break through (single cores to dual, different types of ram enhancements, etc..). Even still, you may not have to upgrade right away.
Also, as far as peripherals go, many "consoles" use usb or bluetooth which are both compatible with PC's, so you can quite easily use an xbox 360 controller, a PS3 controller, or even a Wii remote to play any game you have on PC.
As far as gaming goes the PC will always knock a console out of the water because of the larger compatibility it has with other games, other devices, and the large install rate.
I think Giant Bomb has hit the nail on the head.
"The PC is a high-end, upgradable gaming platform that sports the widest variety of control methods, the largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics. The personal computer is a machine that billions of people around the world use. The PC is the oldest gaming platform still in use today, having an established library of thousands of games."
To someone looking to reach a wide and well informed audience (installing and playing a game on PC takes a bit more brainpower than say, popping in a disc and plopping down on the couch) of gamers this should be the best way to go about it, right? Unfortunately it seems all developers/publishers see when they look at the PC as a gaming platform is big old pirate ship. But really, an illegally downloaded copy of a game =/= a lost sale as most pirates are cheapskates and just pirate because its free and they most likely wouldn't pay for the game if that was their only option. In other news, DRM seems to be slowly going away. Steam is the future of gaming. I'm out.
I hate you Michael for bringing this up as it's been discussed to death and you make shitty threads in general.

here, here!
My biggest problem (and some posters sound like this on here) is that PC gamers tend to sound arrogant., like Console gaming is beneath them. And I do say it is arguable, to the person above, heh. But I won't argue it because...the last two posters are totally right. This issue has been discussed to death and will continue to be, especially with the release of each new console generation.
